Type in MOSIN cartouche or MOSIN inspector stamps and a page will show that has a few of them, most are com bloc mystery. It's probably some inspector stamp I have one the guy hit it 4 times all over the rifle, he was proud of his work.
This is what happens when pawn shop owners are LEFT IN THE DARK. That guy on that Detroit show irritates hell outta me.
This week we can watch 5 guys in a RV eating beans and passing gas. Now that's TV

Thanks Mantis!

A couple other neat things about this one is that it was imported by CAI St Alb. Vt. and has a smaller less noticeable import mark under the barrel near the front sight.

Does anyone know, did they import a lot of PU snipers?

It also has an unpinned rear sight, which somebody correct me if I'm wrong, the pinned rear sight seems to be an upgrade for 91/30 rifles or was done during refurbishment.

Yes, the pins were an upgrade :)
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

What do the you guy's think?

Is this a refurbished sniper?

Possibly the shellac was redone?

There is a refurbishment stamp on the 1940 dated SVTscope but no added post war date like they put on the post war refurbished scopes, so I would like to think it's original to the rifle when built.

No refurb marks on the stock or barrel (like is on the other CAI sniper that they are holding for me at my favorite gun shop :) . )

Shouldn't/wouldn't it have refurb stamps? :vconfused: wasn't that the point of the stamp? To announce it's refurbishement :?:

Need more pic.s?? Let me know, TIA.

yes, it is refurbished for sure and this is how you can tell on "your sniper" rifle.

Watch the second prefix letter that looks like a backwards N

Also watch the 2 in the serial number.

The backwards N has a different font on most of the parts to the barrel shank. Notice the line between the two vertical lines. watch where that line connects to the two vertical lines. It is different on all of them (almost all). That indicates the parts were "re-stamped" with a different stamp latter on or what we call "forced matched". That is OK. Most snipers are refurbished and don't have matching fonts on all the parts. Non refurbished Russian rifles don't have the heavy shellac.

The Russians didn't always mark the refurbs with that square mark. Most of the PU snipers don't have a refurb mark, bur a few do.

Nice Tula sniper with a "Tula" mount also! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Sample on "force matching" the serial numbers. This holds true with non snipers (standard M91/30) also.

Watch the И (backwards N) on all of the serial numbers on your rifle. (we can do the same thing with the other numbers and letters, but your И (backwards N) tells the entire story.

Watch the diagonal line between the two vertical lines. Specifically the right vertical line. Notice where the diagonal line meets the right vertical line (at the top). That is what we want to watch on this Russian letter.

(I know on the example below I said left vertical line, but it should be right)

Shown below is each of the serial numbers on your rifle (could be any refur'd Mosin).
Notice the differences in the И on each serial number?

This is an indication that parts have been changed at some point and re marked or "forced matched".

My guess is:

The barrel shank and butt plate are original to the "original rifle". That would mean the stock is probably the original stock as they seem to have tried to keep the butt plate with the stock. For them, if they kept the stock with the same receiver, it would be much easier to put all together later. Every mount sits on the receiver differently. They are not identical. Keeping the stock with the receiver means a perfect fit later. It also is true they tried to keep the mount with the same rifle. The mount was not serial numbered originally. It was done later during refurb and would answer why the ser# on the mount are the "newer set" or refurbd set.

Notice how the bolt, Magazine plate and scope mount match? My guess it they did this at the refurb process and replaced these item on the original rifle.

Excellent Sniper rifle. Great Tula rifle! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

You are welcome. It might help others to understand "forced matching" also. It is really a perfect example to work with, and that is not always the case.

When these rifles were put back together after refurb, the only serial numbers on them were the original serial numbers. All the matching parts were left alone. All the non matching refurbed parts had the serial numbers removed and then refinished.

Everything non matching and now cleaned off was "remarked" all at one time. So you have original marks and refurb marks, but yours tosses in a weird one. Notice the 2 on the bolt. It don't really match the refurb serial numbers on the butt plate or the scope mount.

So it kind of looks like you have three different serial number fonts on your rifle. That's OK, just different.

My understanding is that this is an "early" CAI import.

I corrected the photo above and re-wrote some of the text as it will change also. It makes a lot more sense this way. Because they always tried to keep the stock, receiver and mounts together.

None of the stocks are the same because the mounts are not exactly mounted on to the receiver exactly the same every time. So mixing mounts to a receiver can be done, but takes a lot of "fitting" which is visible. After such a re-fit, the stock would not fit proper any more, so to avoid this, they tried to keep them all together as a group, and yours show that they did just that.

Dolk

Sorry for the mix up.

Bb91, I meant to compliment this beautiful rifle before but must have forgot. Very nice find. Now call me crazy, but my favorite pic is the shot of the bore! Are you a professional photographer, or what? Dang, that bore picture really "pops"! What a beauty. :P:P

Thank you! Not a professional, I just take 100 pic.s and keep three! :D

The bore shots are the hardest, with my hundred dollar camera.

See, someone who listened to my camera and pics rant, you don't need fancy equipment to take a good pic, just good light and 300 shots :)

Just what I was thinking... That was a stellar shot of the crown & bore. Great job & I must say that it's refreshing to see a really nice, early import true PU Sniper. :vcool: :vcool: :vcool:

Greetings all,
I'm a newbie to this site & to Mosins in general.
I'm expecting delivery of my 1943 (Deac)Tula ex sniper tomorrow & I'm keen to learn more about the rifle espaecially the snyperskya aspect.

Although the rifle has been refurbed, I'm interested in collecting sundry items (the right/age related scope et c) to go with it & make a display.

I hope to learn a lot from you guys.....one of them being....where can I get the Tula t shirt I saw one someones avatar pic!

Keep well all, bye for now.

Welcome to the forum, try Google for the T shirt, we don't have them on the forum, just caps at the moment. What is a Tula (Deac) ? Do you mean deactivated?
