M1 Carbine
Re: M1 Carbine
Certainly, we have come a long way in "assault weapon ammunition" that is light, compact and easily accessible in high capacity magazines with much better ballistics than WWII fodder. The 5.56 Nato, 7.62x39 and several other calibers too numerous to mention are a testament to that. The .30 Carbine was supposed to be a replacement for the .45 sidearm to provide rear area troops and officers an alternative to the 1911. It ended up in front line service everywhere and I'm sure it had it's limitations, most of which we may never know as it resides with the memories of our deceseased and aging veterans. Nevertheless, at the time it was a great concept and an exceptional firearm. Civilians have embraced it for it's light weight, low-recoil, and practical accuracy. I love it because of it's place in our history.

Many of those vet's did leave behind their opinions about the M1 Carbine in the books they wrote after the war, and the story's they told. Some loved it and some hated it just like any other firearm.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I just wish the ammo was a little cheaper.

Re: M1 Carbine
I got the carbines when they were dirt cheap, probably the only time in history there were cheap and available. I should have gotten more ammo back then.

Yea I saw the old newspaper ads for $100.00 guns and $3.00 boxes of ammo. You could get a jeep to go with it for just a few hundred more in a crate. All covered and wrapped in tarps full of grease and cosmo. JGC
