1915 Gewehr 98

Post by The Feral Machinist »

I found a 1915 Gewehr 98 made in Berlin with a Weimar security forces stamp of 1920 on the receiver ring. Unfortunately, someone drilled and tapped holes on top of the receiver for a scope mount. The gun is in decent shape and with all matching numbers. Does anyone know what one of these maybe worth roughly or what price I may offer for it?

Did they chop the stock, and do away with the handguard, bands, and bayonet lug? Do the serial numbers on all the parts match, the Germans numbered everything. What happened to the scope mount? Is it still on the rifle? Condition of the bore?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

It would help if we could see it, post some pics in the sporting rifle section of the board, make sure they are clear, and include any markings, as well as the drilled area.
