Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The wire hangers are interesting. Much more Austro-Hungarian than Finn.
Not many. That is what makes it a little on the rare side. I read somewhere the Finns had less than 1500 captured and functioning M38's at the end of the war. Can't remember where now.
I'd love to get my hands on a M44 [SA} marked rifle.

I've read that statistic, as well. My understanding is also that the 1,500 tally was for all carbines, which included a limited number of M44's. So, the total amount of M38's would be 'less than' fifteen hundred.

Correct^^
The Finns didn't differentiate between the M38 and the M44. I've seen around 10-15 finn-captured m38s online total, and 3 finn-captured m44s that I can think of. I'm guessing the ratio is probably about 5:1 m38s to m44s.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

I agree on the showcase comment. One of the interesting thing about Finns is that you can see virtually the entire Russian arsenal through the SA window. But the Finns imparted as many twists to the Russian designs as you can find on a corkscrew willow.
