Re: Enemy at the Gates, 2001
No movie is ever 100% historically accurate, they are made for entertainment, and to make money for their investors they have to entertain. That means bullshit will be added, real history is long periods of boring nothing punctuated by traumatizing events, all people ever want to watch are the traumatizing stuff. If real life was like that 24 hours a day we would all be insane by now.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Enemy at the Gates, 2001
I haven't seen this movie for years. I think I still have a copy of it packed away somewhere. Now where is that box?
Re: Enemy at the Gates, 2001
The old TV puked last week so Best Buy here I come to see what is on sale after Christmas. I got a wall hanger type that has 3D , LCD & LED built in and it came with a blue ray player and even came with 4 pairs of 3D glasses.
. It was marked down a lot so I went for it and a Bose sound system. First movie I plugged in was EATG to watch Vasily do his thang.
Of course my disk is the regular type not blue ray so I will have to get it from Netflix to see if I can even notice any difference. Netlix dropped the price on my package $2 a month or two ago but when I changed my account to send blue ray in the future it went up ( wait for it ) the same amount that it had went down.
I have never watched blue ray disks before so will I even notice a difference, probably not but I'm sure that 3D will become bigger in the future as blue ray already has. It had been a while since I had watched EATG and it was great, the cat and mouse game with the Nazi sniper was really good to see again. Don't read any real info about the famed Russian sniper because what was real and what was Hollyweird was a vast difference. The way the Russians used him and others for propaganda purposes even what we read now may not be historically accurate. As others mentioned, accuracy isn't important to Hollyweird, they want to entertain and make all the $ they can so facts become fiction. You know how it is, there are so many people that buy movies as 100% fact because they can't or won't do any research on their own and they get force fed all of their info online or TV.

Re: Enemy at the Gates, 2001
I have a one year old Samsung blue ray player, until last year all it ever played were regular DVD discs. I bought Cowboys and Aliens just so I could play at least 1 Blue Ray disc. It was OK, but to my surprise the package also contained the entire movie on a regular DVD disc. I don't rent DVD's at all anymore, now I pay them to stream movies live to my TV using the internet ready Blue Ray player. Right now I am watching the great auto race across the US in 1903 in a Winton automobile by Dr Nelson Jackson, great story.

Re: Enemy at the Gates, 2001
We had a house full of people when I was growing up. After school, since I lived in the country, my place was the everyone came to to shoot, drink and hide. There was always someone there. When I finally settled down, there came kids, then kid's friends. Even now, there are usually 3 or 4 kids here at any time. So on the rare occassions that I am home alone, yep, I have the TV on even if I'm not watching it!

No one talks much about the Female sniper named Lydia. Over what 4 500 CONFIRMED kills. She used a PU I saw a propaganda pic with her holding a SVT38 or 40 sniper. Vertical stringing can;'t hold a zero blah blah she went back to the PU. Vassli went on to open sniper schools and his student have claimed more than 6000 kills. He died in 80 something in a car wreck his Izhevsk PU is in the Leningrad museum.
On an aside I saw my mentor use a '43 TULA PU ("Why mess up a perfectly good 700?") this was in the 80s and he was D E A D L Y out to 600 yard with that PU 3.5 4X scope. He made his own rounds out of 147 7.62 NATO "Aim small miss small" The POA was 8 inches wide and POI was center mass 2 buttons down 1 in left almost every time.
Say what you want in the hands of a sniper the PU is one of the most indestructible drag in the mud pee in the barrel and hit something ever made

I always watch the Military Channel, and I get something out it even when it's a repeat. Some of the Hitler stuff I have seen over and over and it drives my wife crazy.

So far I have learned he was crazy, under the influence of drugs, consulting with the occult, had unnatural luck ducking assassin's, consulted with a shrink, had a thing for his own niece and probably murdered her, was probably gay, had an unnatural close relationship with his mother. I found that last one funny because for years I referred to him as a mother f*****
The Gay thing is probably true, the servants closest to him say he never touched that Eva girl, and she wasn't bad looking if empty headed. I forgot the failed artist with a secret Jewish boyfriend during his younger years. It's amazing the amount of totally useless information you can learn watching these shows, but at least I know what a well rounded totally whacked out of his ****in' mind lunatic the man was. Why the Germans bought into such a douchebag is still a mystery to me.

I used to wonder why the German people followed him when I was a kid. What exactly would cause a people to blindly follow someone so far removed from reality.
