Yes or no?? worth buying some or not?? I like manually loading each round but figured I would throw this out there and see what everyone's opinion is.

Stripper Clips

Post by BostonMike »

I have 6 of them. I usually keep an ammo pouch full and it's just a convienent want to carry rounds in the field.

For the most part I load single, but do enjoy using the clips.

Stay away from reproduction clips and try and buy originals. Big difference!

They are a pain in the ass to use most of the time. If you get them try to find originals, or Finn, maybe BUlgarian ones. The aftermarket ones tend to not be made to spec.

Clips that work OK on one Mosin might not work at all on another, slight differences in the receivers made over 50 years apart, or wear can cause this. The Mauser clip they are not.

I bought some just because I have other rifles that use stripper clips, Mausers to be specific, and when I got them they were horrible. Aftermarket junk. I got them from CheaperThanDirt last year before I realised they sell a lot of knock off crap. The plating on them is incomplete and the simply are a pain in the backside to use. I'd say the best advice is what these guys have said which is find originals to have as collector pieces and load one at a time. Even the correct ones are a bit of a pain to use. Oh and stripper clips spelled backwards is spilc reppirts. Coincidence? I think Not.

Sounds like Turk 8mm , 70 rounds on the clip per bandoleer, the clips in '43 were the one piece, the ones they had in 1940 were the nice three piece jobs, '43 is a 87 Hyundai with '40 is Cadillac :)

Stripper clips for most other firearms are great. I have about 370 of them loaded for my SKS's and probably about the same for my Mausers and they're great. I love them for those. Stripper clips can save a bunch of time when they work smoothly. One day I'll come across some originals for the Mosins and snatch them up.

My SKS stripper clips work great and I have several MN original stripper clips but have never used them. Seems like more trouble to load the clips then insert them into the rifle than just load the 5 rounds directly into the magazine. Just my 2 cents.

I ordered some original Tikka's, Finn GWS, and Pre-1928 Izhevsk's. I'll let you know how they operate when I get my hands on them.

I liked the SKS clips , but wasted my money on the cheapo knock off MN clips, not to mention a box of band-aids everytime I tried to use them only to end up bleeding like a stuck pig. :2cents:

Once you learn the trick. It's pretty easy to load. Slide the clip into the receiver slot, grab the top round and tilt the rim side down and push down. The rounds fall right in.

I keep some in my ammo can. Come in handy when you want to bang off 20-25 rounds really fast
