M91/30 1941 Izhevsk Round Receiver from Widener's
Re: M91/30 1941 Izhevsk Round Receiver from Widener's
First off your place sounds like heaven. Second, your rifle is beautiful. Great RED colour. I love it. Your reasoning on a license is very familiar to me I just wish I could make a deal on FFL fees like you have. It costs me currently $20.00 per rifle I have shipped thru my FFL. His "in-store" cost for a 91/30 is $ 109.00 (total package), but supply is very limited and not unusual, so I 'lurk on line for special rifles.

I used to do the same when my friend had his store years back, lurk for rifles that is and endless hours of bullshitting while we waited. So many good things would walk in the door, I rarely had him order anything for me because there was enough in the walk in traffic to keep me busy, that and flea markets that seemed to overflow with firearms. I miss those days.

I had never bought a rifle online and really hadn't planned to. There are some gunshops here but they're 70+miles away. Well ok there's a combination tractor, lawnmower, ATV, honda dealer, hunting store across the road from my FFL which is pawn shop. The place across the road is a guy that started out years ago in an old gas station repairing lawn equiptment. Now he sells everything from chainsaws to motorcycles like a lot of places here but he wants $50 to do a transfer and has a bunch of hunting stuff all at premium prices. When I decided on a whim to buy the first rifles in Nov. I wasn't even sure who would transfer them. I used the FFL finder on gun-deals and found a guy in the same town that had a gunshop but had retired and he told me about this guy. He has a website and states he charges $20 to do an FFL transfer but the least number I've rifles I've bought was 4 and he's always charged me $40 whether it was 4 or 8 rifles. Oh and I took him and the manager of the store 6 dozen fresh eggs too. ;)TopperT wrote:First off your place sounds like heaven. Second, your rifle is beautiful. Great RED colour. I love it. Thats a nice early '41 Mike, have you checked the tang date on it yet? I am curious to see if any '41's pop up with a '40 dated tang.
If this new batch of Mosins came in through Washington as the import mark suggests, I sure hope that some of them don't stray too far, say maybe just as far as Idaho!

Very nice Mosin! I like the stock on yours especially. All the Redmonds I've seen locally were about two dozen really rough, sewer pipe wartime frankensteins at Cabela's. Looks like you got a real good example, though. Wish I had the $$$/balls to put together an order like that!

I love the logic! Buy an extra gun to reduce the average FFL and shipping charges. That's the kinda thinkin' that will make any gun addict proud

This is the first time I've bought rifles from Widener's but between them and AIM these make 18 since Nov and I have to say they all are decent rifles. None of the Mosins have sewerpipe barrels out of the 15 I've bought so far but maybe 2 are tired and one has slight pitting. Most have nice shiney barrels with strong rifling. That's the main reason I started buying them again. My 16th Mosin which is a Polish M44 is the one that's pitted and that may be mostly my fault. I was bummed about the Polish M44 and I wanted a decent Mosin. Well 15 Mosins later....angryatbreakfast wrote:Very nice Mosin! I like the stock on yours especially. Jim I would bring you as many fresh eggs as you could stand if you lived near here. From spring until late fall I have at least 10 dozen in the fridge at any one time. Ask Fred_G. Everytime he comes shooting I load him up with eggs. That is if I remember. I got a dozen and a half today alone from the girls.

I love eggs, one of the foods I can manage to cook without burning
Boiled eggs, fried eggs, sunny side up, down, scrambled, omelet......now I'm hungry!

Well I sure eat a lot of them around here. I do all of the above and I pickle them too. I also pickle Okra and make dill pickles fresh from the garden. Use my own garlic too. When I start getting backed up with eggs I make a western omelet with with about 2 dozen eggs, more sometimes. The hens love eating the shells. It helps them to make new eggs.Junk Yard Dog wrote:I love eggs, one of the foods I can manage to cook without burningBoiled eggs, fried eggs, sunny side up, down, scrambled, omelet......now I'm hungry!

I am about to go to bed, you know I can't eat now, but I want to eat now, if I eat now I will have too much energy to sleep, but I need to sleep, decisions, decisions.
