T53 from SOG arrived
My friend with the brown shorts delivered the T53 yesterday from SOG. Nice rifle, I always go for the handselect. It is still in pieces all over the place. Most of the cosmosline is removed and assembly will follow. 1954 date, decent stock with a few dings. OK a lot of dings. Slightly cracked at the buttsplice. Good to great bore, Looks on the shiny side of frosty with a decent crown. I'll know how much it will clean up after I shoot it. Not a single matching number, all of the wear parts are already polished with use. Will check headspace tomorrow. That oil finished stock can absorb a lot of cosmoline, It was clean with kerosine, put in greenhouse and heat to 110, find more cosmoline, repeat.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I looked at a half dozen of these last weekend and they all had nice smooth bolts and triggers. They are growing on me very quickly. A great carbine for someone wanting a shooter.

When you post pics of this rifle, please let us know what the import marks look like.

I am still de-cosmoing the stock. I should have it assembled in a day or two. Stuff/life gets in the way.

From what I recall the decosmolining of a type 53 stock is the work of weeks.

Finished tarting up the old girl here you go.
The import marks were the CAI marks on the left side of the receiver. Not too bad but obvious.
Some interesting findings. Every screw was loose, including the sear spring. So those of you who want to receive and shoot beware.
The bluing was particularly nice. The barrel was rough under the handguard, then was very smooth where it shows.
Nice trigger pull. I always polish the two sear points when I have a gun apart. The sear spring appeared to be new.
Best mixmaster I have seen. I need to get some better light and take some time, but every part has a separate number. And that looks like an Izhevsk triangle on the bolt. Ran down and checked with a loupe, it is.

Re: T53 from SOG arrived
I'm happy. I have been watching them for a while, but I kept reading dark but shootable bores. When I read the post here I ordered mine. If you are interested, the rifle was better than I expected, no accesories, no sling, no cleaning rod.

Maybe I should consider one. Reports of poor bores and general condition has had me scared of what I may receive.
Still hoping to see one at a gun show that I can check out before buying.

Factory 296, November, 1954. Stock look's like it should shine up nicely. See my post for a source for Type-53 Sling's, He may still have some.

Re: T53 from SOG arrived
$150 plus $10 for hand select and around $20 shipping.
Range report:
Well I don't have one. The trigger is very very very light. I shot it after the SKS and had a real hard time getting used to what feels like a 2-3#pull. It just slides like butter and then boom. There is no "stop" before it fires. So I need to practice.
Yes it kicks like two mules, I used a cheek pad and a butt pad.
And I used some padding on the rifle as well.
I need to go back with the right tools to adjust the front sight, I didn't realize that my 91/30 sight tool wouldn't work.
And of course, the heat of firing brought up a new batch of cosmoline from the stock.
Another bonus, firing it also took a nice layer of crud from the bore, it is up to frosty with sort of sharp rifling.
