My First SKS M59/66, and How it Shot.

Post by martin08 »

Back when blond hair was still in vogue (not today's gray!), I bought my first Yugoslavian SKS M59/66 Carbine. The stock also happened to be in the blond elm.

As I was very proud of this gun, I also took it with me in the field. One day a 140 lb. spike horn sauntered into range, and the Yugo took him down with one shot of 154g soft point. The point of aim was straight on, and the bullet entered the base of his neck, traveled the full length of his body and lodged just under the hide in is left rear rump.

Anyway, some pics of the day in the field, and the recovered bullet. Thanks for looking.

Dog would never do that. He is a good doggie. Besides my friend, you did have it coming. It's hard to believe you went so long and never noticed my sig lines. I waited a long time for you too. Temptation got the best of me. Some friends joined in. I think you may have gotten the
internet surprise of the year. I cracked up when you told me you were about asleep when your computer started going ding, ding, ding with more messages than you have had in 2 years. Talk to ya later. Gotta get my beauty rest now. :D

Wow, that is a beautiful carbine, and that deer ain't bad either. I think people underestimate sometimes just how hard this round hits. I think they would make a decent hog gun too.

The .30-30 has been killing deer and other things for a century or more now, it's not all that dissimilar ballistically from the x39.

I've been using mine for a hog gun as back up for my AK47 , Put a temporary scope on it but took it off after one week. Just did not like or need it. Then I joined this forum and found out good stories like this one are common. Thanks. :D JGC

I played with the instant scopes on both the AK and SKS, tossed them both as useless shit. Neither would hold it's zero.

I had same problem and was afraid some hog would chew my butt if I missed. The ones in the Hill country of Texas are small and fast. They run in pairs which makes them dangerous if you have a scope. You might not see the other one behind you when you're trying to focus.JGC
