Am looking for recommendations for scope mounts that do NOT require tapping or drilling. Anyone?

I have both the 91/30 and the M44

thanks

Yep many of us have that problem. there are a few but i have never tried any of them. Darrels is a good one they say and then there are jmecks (?) i have no idea if any of these are any good at all. Most of us here like to keep them as is for the history in and on these old war horses. I enjoy shooting with the open sights and have terrible eye sight. I usually still whip the plastic gun crowd or at least do as good. I just could never bring myself to scope one. Welcome to the forum and post some pics of those mosins :D

From what Ive heard the darrel's mount is good. The j-meck mount is good as well but kinda expensive. The mount is almost as much as the mosin rifle lol. Then you need a bent bolt for it too. I have one from brass stacker. Bought it a month or so ago. Im sorry to say I havent got a scope yet and accually tested it out. But it seems very sturdy and was super easy to install and very good price. Bare in mind that the brass stacker and the darrel's mounts are scout scope mounts. Meaning the scope is positioned further from the shooters eye. So a long eye relief (ler) scope has to be used such as a pistol scope. Do a little research on the different mount and see which style you like best. I liked the design and installation of the brass staker but others might not. Check them out and see which design is right for you. I can't comment much about well the other mounts work. But I have installed the one from brass stacker. If you have any questions about the mount feel free to ask. I truely think they have a winner with the mount. Sucks that most of their other products require perminent mods to use.

i have the brass stacker. it works sooo good!
you only have to take out 2 pins. i can have it back to stock in about 2 min.
it also allows you to use the iron if you want. righ under the rail there is a see thru section, the irons are good to 100-150 yards

Awesome! Im glad to hear from someone that has tested it. I was a little worried about it holding zero well. But this is very reassuring. Ive only heard good stuff from those that have them. I loved how it mounted and the see through design. I also liked that it was all steel and was really good quality. And for the price. I think I paid $59 shipped for mine. They even give you the punch to drive out the old pins.

Here are a few pics of mine installed. I still got to get me a scope for it.

My eyes are older and more tired that most, yet I still use only iron sights, I like the challenge in it. I do have scopes on my commercial rifles.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Ponycarman don't take this the wrong way but... :big shock:

WTF landed on your Mosin!!!! That thing is huge & did you have to drill out to put those bolts on? Whoa...

I prefer the Darrel'sDarrel's mount page mount as stated above. Small, discreet, non-permanent & solid as a rock. :vcool:

Its not nearly as big as it looks in the pics. No drilling at all. Just tap out the pins in the rear site base and tap the bolts through the existing holes. I can remove it in no time any time I want to put it right back to stock. It is slightly larger than the darrel's mount. But with this design I can still use my iron sights if my optic fails.

Just be sure the original parts do not get lost, and are bagged and marked as to which rifle they belong to. Nothing I hate more then finding one in a pawn shop that has had the mount put on and the sight parts are not with it. Otherwise I am not against the mounts that do not alter the rifle.

Definitely. I'm kinda liking jyd's idea from another thread. Put the pins under the butt plate. Then you never really have to worry about where they are.
