I dug through some info and found these numbers,

Winchester-580,000
Remington -600,000
Eddystone-1,354,701
These numbers from The U.S. Rifle, caliber .30, M1917 by By Dick Culver

Hatcher’s Notebook claims 2,202,429 total made, at a cost of $26 a piece :big shock:
The American Enfield claims 2,534,701 total made

p17 is an incorrect term, there is no such thing as a P17.

The Pattern 1917 and 1914 rifles were really well built tools of war. It's too bad what has happened to many of them over the years, being sporterized as they were. After WWI they were a common rifle to be reworked into hunting rifles. Many had the rear sight protectors cut off and scope mounts installed as well as re-chambering. The Brits dumped truck loads of the rifles into the ocean after the war just to get rid of them. What a loss. As to how many were made I'd like to know how many survived to our time. I know mine will stay all original and I will never sell it. I value the rifle more than my Garand.

thats it, the Mosin Nagant 91/30 is now renamed the Mauser nugget 50 bmg since we are making guns up lol

the 1917 (30/06) was classified as MODEL 1917 even the model 1917s that were led lease to the Brits were still MODEL 1917
the pattern 14 (.303 British) is the pattern 14

black jack put his ass on the line for the yanks to remain under U.S. command in WW1 this went for American property also. :devil2:

Hey Burrhead, I'm just messing with ya buddy

I am just overly sensitive to model 1917 being under the wrong name and I hate when people abort the SKS by taking stock in Tapco and ATI

Many of the reworked 1917's were sent to China during WW2 as Lend Lease aid, we got some of them back during Korea, and the rest as surplus in the early 1990's. China removed the US markings on many of these, Numrich had a bunch of them around 1994, I examined a few, not much wear, but the scrubbed markings looked like crap, a friend bought two, I passed and bought a regular GI WW2 rework with markings intact. The China rifles were around a hundred bucks each I think.

No offense taken, we all need correcting from time to time. Heck I got blasted on the old board one time for not calling it a "Pattern 1917" so no big deal. I'd still like to know how many un-altered ones are out there. I do like my Eddystone and I have a rather rough Pattern 1914 (P14) that I shoot but the M1917 is a much nicer condition rifle, I think it was reworked for WWII but it still has it's original barrel.

Well I can't provide a number of how many are out there I can say there are enough not to worry about them disappearing from the market. However the ones out there are going through a crazy price increase, In fact, they are pretty much averaging the same as 1903s and low grade M1s. :beek:

Don't forget the US rifle Model of 1892-98, the legendary Krag, if you are gonna collect US bolt rifles then you need one. Smoothest action of any military bolt rifle ever made :)
