My Broken Mosin

Post by ktulu92fs »

I took my Nagant out to the range last weekend. I fired 2 shots and my trigger quit working. I took the rifle apart and the pin that holds the trigger in place had started to slide out one side. Is this an easy fix? I'm supposed to take it out again on Saturday. I can post pics if need be. If anyone on here is in the Louisville, KY area, I would be more than willing to meet up so I can get my rifle up and running again. Thanks for any help.

Easy fix. Slide it back in place. It's fairly common for them to slide out when dis-assembled & out of the stock but it's not unheard of for it to come loose when at the range. Chances are it was only partially in place when you took it to the range.

Pics of course would greatly help to verify that is indeed the problem though.

I just looked at it again. The trigger spring/bolt stop snapped in two. The broken piece must have fallen out of the rifle when I took it apart at the range. I think I have access to a spare. I'll post some pics later tonight.

Even Ebay has some. $6 to $15. Easy part to find.

I'd bet that the pin fell out after it was removed from the stock. How many have had that pin drop out while disassembling? When I pull one apart, that is the first thing I watch for and remove, or you will loose it!

That trigger spring/bolt stop never breaks. That's odd.

This has happened to me before. It sucks but its a simple fix and odds are once replaced, that part will out last you.

www.LibertyTreeCollectors.com is a great place to save to your favorites. Even if you don't get something from him now CL is a good guy to deal with and has some unusual stuff. I've bought a bunch of stuff from him including some hard to find magazines for my .22lr M69 Romanian Trainer. Hard to find mags and after almost losing the only one I have he saved the day. I have 9 now.

Here's a few pictures of the damage. I was going to post one of the markings on the receiver, but none of the pictures would show :b sad:

Welcome to the forum, A simple parts replacment, it's always good to have some small parts like this on hand as spares just in case. I picked up some a few years ago, but they are still cheap, and around today, get a spare pin while you are at it, that pin is the number one lost part on many Mosins.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
