Mosin Nagant sniper variant?

Post by chaos »

I bought a couple of old russian mosin nagants from a guy the other day, one of them seems to be a sniper variant not really sure. I tried to look up the markings and had some luck i found out it is a Tula but the russian letters below the star w/the arrow are a bit odd. I see people talk about PE and PEM and PU s but has anyone ever seen a PG followed by some numbers if so any help would greatly be appriecated.

PG followed by numbers sounds like the rifles serial number. A tula sniper rifle would have "CN" above the star.

An ex-sniper will have plugged holes on the left side of the receiver. These are most visible by removing the bolt and viewing from inside.

Welcome aboard. What year is your gun?

Welcome to the forum, the best thing to do if you can would be to take some clear pictures of your rifles markings as well as some showing the sides of the barrel just below the markings. Open the bolt and take another of the inside of the receiver, you want to focus on the inside rail for weld spots.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Welcome Chaos... :)

Sounds like a sniper rifle without a scope & mount. Looking forward to some pics.

With the holes on the left side of the receiver, if they are spread apart like they are in the pic Dolk posted, someone stateside drilled it for a PU scope.

If the two holes are close together (literally right next to each other) they could be PEM side-mount holes, which could be either done here, or originally by the Soviets. Pics will tell the story.
