Thank goodness for anesthetics.

Post by SA1911a1 »

I had a crown that had been "leaking" for who knows how long. I didn't know it until I started getting a little discomfort it it. Went the the dentist last week and xrays showed that it had rotted, inside, down the root to below the bone line. It couldn't be saved. My dentist had the damnest time getting it out. He tugged, pulled, twisted, pushed and couldn't budge the thing first the crown broke with a resounding pop, then the tooth started audibly cracking and popping. After about 20 minutes, he ended up sawing the tooth into three sections and pulling one at the time. Meanwhile I am sitting their in stark fear that he would breaksomething he couldn't fix.... In the end, all came out well, (so to speak) I thought that with all of the activity that it would be sore as the dickens after the juice wore off, but it has been 6 hours and all is well.

As I sat in the chair a couple of things went through my mind, the first was the movie Marathon Man, with Dustin Hoffman, the second was an old Bob Hope movie where he played a traveing (scam) dentist in the old west. Damned if I couldn't have used some of Bob's laughing gas.

So long as you didn't mess the dentists chair, they bill for cleaning on them you know. Screaming like a little girl is OK, they save the recordings for the office Christmas party. Glad it all worked out, dentistry can be so much fun. :beek:
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I had an abcess back in April and the tooth which had a crown had broken. I was on antibiotics for a week before the extraction and he gave me some limited supply of Hydrocodone post extraction which I never had to use. The extraction and bone graft went well, and now I am waiting until December to get an implant. It sucks getting old and it's bloody expensive to get an implant. Nevertheless, at this point, I wanted the best fix possible and I am willing to wait for it. Good luck with yours; hopefully it went with with little pain.
