Well, boys, Monday is my 53 wedding anniversary.

Post by SA1911a1 »

(56 years as a couple in Sept) My wife should get a sainthood for putting up with me all of that time. You might think that in that amount of time, I might have grown up, but noooooo. Led Zeppelin used to sing about "Good times, bad times, you know I've had my share..." Aint that the truth. Because of my wonderful wife, I have had a good life, and if I go belly-up tomorrow, I would have nothing to whine about.

Congratulations, longest anyone of my friends stayed married was five years. None of those marriages were made in Heaven that's for sure :big shock: much to my surprise none of them ended with someone trying to hide a body. I wonder how many of the current generations will be married at all let alone together for 50+ years. Unfortunately the golden Mosin is only awarded to members who reach their 83rd wedding anniversary and it can be confirmed by their parents. Let me know when you reach that milestone and I will get right on it. :vcool:
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks Jim, I will hold you to it! You are such a nice and generous fellow :)

My Maternial Grandmother made it to her 104th birthday, so it is in the realm of possibility. My 83rd would be at age 102. ;) My 5th GGF made it to 100, dying in about 1800 and his wife lived to be 99, and that in a time where life expectancy for men was about 38 years and 44 for women.

I really doubt that you would have to pay up, I will be very surprised if I make it to 75. I worked in construction far too long, and back in the days when job safety was non-existant here in the South. I have worked, with no protection, with asbestos, I should have silicosis, I used Tolune, MEK, Benzine with no protection and the first few years of my plumbing career, we worked every day with molten lead. As a kid in high-school, we used to play with mercury! Did you know that if you rub mercury on a dime with your fingers it will make it feel slimy? ;)

If any of that shit was going to get you it would have done so by now. I am a diabetic who was exposed to Covid a dozen times and still haven't even had the sniffles since 2012 or so. According to the experts I should have got it and kicked off early on. 40 years in the scrap business I have been exposed to everything you mentioned, if any of it wants to get me then it will have to get in line behind the diabetes. I got to live out my youth, and most productive years without any major health issues, or even a broken bone so now if any of that other crap wants to take me out, then C'est la vie

Congratulations Steve, any woman that puts up with our asses for that long had already met Sainthood, several times over.

Hell mine has only dealt with me for 36 years of marriage, and the birth of 3 oversized baby's. George 12 pounds (2 feet tall), Cory 11 pounds, and Kayleigh 10 pounds. Plus me being gone so much during the last 11 years of my career that I average 72 days a year at home. Then my ass walked in the front door one day and never left. There's a patch of yard out back with my name on it, for when I piss her off one time roo many.

I'd win the lottery if my health allowed me to reach yalls milestone that is for sure. Again congratulations, yalls achievement is something that most of the "Throw away" generation will never see or understand.
