M27 stock options

Post by Hacksaw830 »

I have no clue about Mosin Nagant rifles, i ran across this Finnish Mosin with Tikka markings in a nice Russian stock, had money in my pocket so i bought it, the markings are 1935 with "T" in a triangle with 2 different SA markings.
My question is since it has the incorrect stock and the upper handgurd doesn't , I'd like to put it in a M39 stock, because I like the pistol grip on the M39, and there are several M39 stocks available, will I have problems doing this? Will it fit?

Welcome to the forum!

yes, it sounds like you have an M27 or M28. Some pictures would be a great help in identifying what you indeed have. very possible the stock is actually correct for your rifle. Take your time with this, it could be a gem already.

The stock looks brand new and she top cover doesn't fit well, it's too long and has the russian nose cap. It's a very nice stock just wrong for this gun. How do I attach pics?

Yes, you will have a problem installing it in an M39 stock--specifically, you'll have to do work to make a hand guard work with that set up.

Before you get ahead of yourself, post some photos. If I recall correctly, there were a few M27 rifles that were imported with 91/30 stocks. Show a photo of the import marking with the rifle remaining in the stock.

To post photos, scroll down a bit when you try to post something. You'll see a tab that says "Attachments". Click on that. It should allow you to add attachments. If that isn't there, you may need to click on "Go Advanced" to add attachments. If the file size is too large, you can reduce it using Microsoft Paint (if using Windows, you should have this program). To use Paint, right click on your photo and choose "Open With". Should give you option to use Paint. In paint, there is a section called "Image". On the right side of that section is a box inside a box (dotted line) with an arrow. Click on that. It will give you option to resize your image. I always choose to resize using "Pixel" rather than "Percentage". I'll change the larger of the two pixel sizes to either "1080" or "1000". The other size will automatically reduce. This usually is good enough to reduce the picture file size so you can post a photo.

Willyj73 is correct, some M27 's were placed in M91/30 stocks by the Finn's on an emergency basis. You could have a very uncommon Finnish variant and altering it would devalue it. Pictures would clear this up, especially of the location and style of the import mark. M27 's that were imported wearing M91/30 stocks have a unique import stamp style.

If it's a M28 there is a stock on Apex right now.

An M27 stock set took me best part of 4 years or so to find one for a sportered M27 I had bought from a coworker. If my memory serves me right I bought it in 2010 and found the stock set around 2014. When I originally got it I put it in a Russian capture stock set, but it had to be sanded out for the receiver to fit in it. Total pain in the ass job, but I did it as I just couldn't stand it in the sporter stock. I'd say a good 6 or 7 ears ago I found another M27 stock set with all the hardware on an auction site, threw out what I considered a friggin' stupid low bid and low and behold won it. It's been sitting on my workbench for years now. I don't know when I'll ever come across another sportered M27, but if I do I have a stock set ready to go.

One thing I can vouch for is that's one of the hardest to find stock sets I've ever looked for. Then again now most everything has dried up. I've rescued a few various sporters over the years by putting them in stock sets, but IMHO those days are long gone now.

If I remember right an M28 stock and hand guard would fit an M27. It's been a long while but I vaguely remember an M28 or two that were in M27 stock sets posted over the years.
