An SKS red dot mount that actually works

Post by Pureblood »

It maintains zero as it never needs to be removed, and the iron sights can still be used. It costs about $20, and it does not alter the rifle.

Everyone but me hates it. :D

Interesting, I can never see the red dots on the paper unless I am standing two feet away from it. I find that I miss the paper far less often when I stand that close to it
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The dot is never on the paper, it's just an optical illusion known as Peppers Ghost.

It works well with some other rifles too.

I didn't know that, never had any sort of electronic sight on anything before. Have glass on a few rifles, the inevitable EMP blast shouldn't render them inoperable. In your case you will still be able to use the iron sights if that happens, so whoever designed that had some brains.

"Pepper's ghost is an illusion technique, used in the theatre, cinema, amusement parks, museums, television, and concerts, in which an image of an object off-stage is projected so that it appears to be in front of the audience.[1]"

The technique is named after the English scientist John Henry Pepper.

Red dot sights have been around for a long time, they were used to good effect as gunsights for Spitfires and Hurricanes during WW2.
