Who else will be watching The Longest Day tonight?
Who else will be watching The Longest Day tonight?
Or perhaps Saving Private Ryan?

Me, maybe, I've been binge watching Band of Brothers all day.

I watched Ryan this morning, 80 years, the last survivors are almost to 100, or over it now.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Read earlier where a D-Day Vet on his way over to Normandy for the reunion passed away enroute. Also sad to see in the news this might might be the last one with D-Day survivors in attendance.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 2:49 pm I watched Ryan this morning, 80 years, the last survivors are almost to 100, or over it now.![]()

Going with an age of 18 (Yes I know there some who lied about their age and were younger) and WWII ending with the surrender of Japan in Sept 45 would make the youngest 97 years old.
Hell our youngest Vietnam Vet would average 69. Say 18 years old again and with the withdrawal of US Combat Forces in Mar 1973.
Korean War Armistice was signed in Jul 53, again say 18 years old would make the youngest one 89 years old now.
We're losing our Veterans at an alarming rate. Now it is even more important that we learn their stories before it's too late. Years ago we took our kids (2 sons and a daughter) to the local Veterans Home and had them sit down and visit. While they could ask questions, their main job was to listen and learn, by letting the Veterans tell their stories. Our kids now 35, and soon to be 33 and 32 still remember those visits and will bring it up from time to time. It apparently made an impact on them.
Everything I have today, I owe to the Veterans that came before me.
