Authentication Request

Post by stl aaron »

I bought this 91/30 PU off GunBroker many moons ago. It looked authentic-ish, so I never worried too much about it. Now I'm looking to sell it, so I kind of want to know what I actually have. If someone asks me if it's real I don't want my only honest response to be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I know the scope mount is 100% reproduction. No question there.

I have a lot of photos in this album: imgur album. I think the most important images are grouped towards the bottom. I took some extra photos after reading Darryl's post, and I think I got everything requested there.

Thanks a lot in advance!

The rifle is a sniper with its original scope number scrubbed. The scope is legit, the mount looks like it might be a post war replacement, but I won't rule out a good quality reproduction. The bolt looks terrible, appears to either a sloppy repair, or a reproduction. That said I can't say with certainty it isn't a resnipered ex-sniper, without being able to handle it, but it could well be a refurb as CAI sold both reproductions made with some legit parts as well as refurb'ed snipers.

I actually contacted CAI at one point and asked if they had records that would tell me what it was, but they weren't able to help me.

The receiver and stock always seemed legit to me, but I could never figure out what was going on with that bolt.

I assumed the mount was a reproduction because it was not zeroed at all when I received it.

Thanks for your input!
