Record setter, and it is supposed to be hotter tomorrow and Sunday. Jim, do you have an extra room? I wonder what it is like in Sonny's neck of the woods?

Other than doctors appointments and the local gunshow Saturday, I haven't been out of the house for a several weeks. Its just been to damn hot in the Florida Panhandle.
So I spend most of my time looking a gun porn or playing Sniper, HALO, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc on the Xbox.
BTW, Steve, know of any Gunsmiths between my ways and yours? Can't find a local one, and want to get the hammer and trigger swapped on my S&W K38.

Mid 70's here today, but humid thanks to recent rain. I have a small RV not being used at the moment, and the house next door is up for rent at $4500 a month, $500 extra is there are pets.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.
Way to hot at that time of the night.
We are running a little "cool" for this time of year. Usually we are in the high 90's to 105 during the day.
But, we have been around 80 - 93 and sometimes dropping to 70's.
That is not normal for around here.
Good luck with that 97 in the evening. We drop to around high 60's at night. That makes it easier to sleep at night.
But 97! On comes the AC!

Looks like some gentle zephyrs are coming your way from the Caribbean to cool your brow.
On a fun, side note: Wifey finally got a job in FL as a possible first step in moving there.
In Clearwater.
She's leaving Tuesday morning from MS.
I'll be following Wednesday in the U-Haul.
Yay.

Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.
Mike there is a "gunsmith" associated with the Talon firearms group in Midway (10 miles W. of Tallahassee) I don't know much about him, but Talon is a first rate operation. You may want to give them a call. If they don't want to do it, they will recommend someone who could. My good gunsmith up and died on me; rude bastard!ffuries wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 4:26 pmOther than doctors appointments and the local gunshow Saturday, I haven't been out of the house for a several weeks. I also play Ace Combat. Not too long ago I downloaded Ace Combat 7 and I believe I'm on the last mission to finally beat the game. At some point I'll finish it lol.

The weather guessers aren't predicting it to be bad, then again Michael was only supposed to be 3, instead we got a 5.Brucifer wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 7:36 pmThank you for the offer. Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.
My watch repair guy up and died on me, both of the diesel mechanics who helped us keep our old machines going did the same crap, my coin guy up and died, all five of the antique car dealers I knew are gone, and at least that many gun collectors I did business with. Thing is none of these people had my permission to go anyplace, and there is no replacing them.

Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.
I'll be leaving in a couple of hours and see what is happening in Tallahassee. She'll be leaving tomorrow, or even Friday depending on what my trip is like. The main thing is I get there and get the bed, TV and other bulky things set up at the apartment. Hopefully most people knew that heading south and east for this storm would of been the best choice and the entire east coast of Florida isn't trying to return down the 75.
I'll try and post Saturday night after I get home.

Re: Six o'clock in the evening and it is 97 outside.
Had the truck packed Wednesday morning and was watching the news as to how the storm was progressing. When they were showing low shots of a puddle to make it look like a like and doing live reports from marinas, I knew the Tampa area wasn't that bad as for damage.
Idalia made landfall around 8am, but due to being lazy, I didn't get started until 10am. A little extra time wouldn't be bad other than a late arrival time. Held 70-80mph all along the I-10 with only one slowdown due to an accident. Someone lost a camper and by the time I got there, the skid-steer was placing the pieces in a dumptruck.
Speaking of skid-steers, it seemed like every other vehicle had one behind it. If a vehicle had flashing lights on it, this was the time to use them. Saw several convoys of electrical trucks heading west. Traffic thinned out considerately after Tallahassee.
Had a blow out on the rear duallies of the U-haul and waited for roughly an hour for the service truck to replace them. Ran interference on the road as best I could as the tire were on the driver's side and the tech was maybe 6 inches from the white line. I wasn't going to pull more over into the grass and possibly get stuck (tech didn't want that either). Sat in the truck while I waited for him since it was safer than standing in the grass off to the side with the fire ants.
All that idling cut into my gas mileage and that cut into my plans of having a full tank while doing through the 'dead zone' of the hurricane's path. I knew they would be out of power for a while and the pumps wouldn't be working. I was starting to get nervous as the gauge started to dip below a quarter tank.
Side note: FL511.com said all lanes were blocked because of debris, but running late allowed the crews to clear everything off the road by the time I went through. It was just about sunset and they were packing it in for the night as I passed.
There is a Buc-ees style gas station called Busy Bee's at Exit 283. I could see street lights on in the parking lot, but there was so much cross traffic, the semi's in front of me were having a hard time make the needed left. so I went to the right, taking a chance that some station of the other side would have power (the Waffle House was lit up, so that was a good sign). The only place open was the Murphy's running off a generator. I didn't want to take the local's cheap gas since it might be all they have for a couple of days, for I filled on the 93-octane, ethanol-free stuff. Pricey, but I do have to say my miles per gallon improved significantly.
Once I got onto the I-75 south for a couple of miles, it was smooth sailing and lighted gas stations all the way into Tampa. Without downtime and time-change, I did it in about 11 hours. No real damage I saw in Clearwater other than the normal tree litter you get with high winds. Wifey made it down the next day with no issues.
Thanks again to Smiley for his offers.
