CINC Household is out running errands the other day and discovers the AC in the Expedition is blowing hot air. Goes into the shop yesterday and that was $960.00 bill. Turns out the Schrader valve was defective and letting freon escape along with a pinhole in the line.
Then later in the day yesterday we noticed the fridge is off, checked the circuit breaker and it's popped. Circuit isn't overloaded as the outlet for the fridge is a stand alone outlet. After a couple resets over the day, we plug it into another outlet, thinking maybe the fridge outlet is bad. Works with no problems for several hours, then as I'm walking through the kitchen just a bit ago the damn fridge is out again and this circuit breaker is now popped. Guess the fridge is spiking for some reason, maybe a bad compressor or something. So I guess we'll be replacing the damn fridge now.
I'm not touching another damn thing for fear of something frigging else breaking around here!

Re: Money Drain.....
Probably all made in China. Are any icebox's still made in the USA? With all the important components also USA made? That's how some company's get you, they tout a Made in USA banner, but don't tell you the compressor is made in shitastan out of old beer cans. You look at the tiny print and see " Made in USA with globally sourced components. That means everything but the company decal is made elsewhere. Buy the cheapest piece of shit you can find because it will last just as long as the most expensive one, all made from the same parts in the same places.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

We've had this refrigerator since Jan 2006 so 17 and 1/2 years. So we've got our money's worth out of it.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 3:13 pm Probably all made in China. Found out if I turn off the icemaker the fridge quits tripping the circuit breaker. It has been off for a few months, and I turned it back on yesterday. That is when the issue started, so until we replace the fridge, I'll just leave the ice maker off. Didn't connect the dots at first

Check the compressor to make sure it's not running hot, clean the condenser of the dust that accumulates there. Fires can happen when icebox compressors start to overheat. 17 years is fucking amazing if that's a China unit, especially in a hot area. I once had a 1950's HotPoint that was still working in the late 1990's until the hinge broke and the door came off. Compressor never went bad.

When we moved back into the house last Aug (2022), CINC Household removed the backing on the fridge and vacuumed out any dog fur and any dust from the drywall work that built up. So we'll pull it out and do it again just to rule that out.
We pretty much did this with a lot of stuff in the house. Example the upstairs ceiling fans as they weren't replaced. We killed the power, took them down, took them apart, and completely cleaned them. Stove/oven was pulled out and cleaned inside and outside, along with dishwasher. Took the compressor and blew out the inside and outside of the inside HVAC unit.
If cleaning fixes it, that's fine, it'll make a good garage fridge for someone, so we'll list it for free for the taking, before we send it for disposal. She's already found a new one she likes.
