Moscow 1980 Olympics Matchboxes
Moscow 1980 Olympics Matchboxes
I recently added this set of matchboxes to my collection. The front of the box has a picture of Misha the bear on it who was the mascot of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. There are 28 total boxes of matches with each box showing a different image.

I have seen, at a friend's home, a special edition of Russian silver coins that were offered for the Olympics.
They were very nice....

Didn't we boycott the commie Olympics that year over their attack on Afghanistan? That whole situation worked out so well!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Moscow 1980 Olympics Matchboxes
I never paid much attention to the Olympics, but I remember hearing about that even with the hostage crisis occupying much of the news at the time. The winter of '80, the Soviet/Afgan war, the talk around whatever greasy engine we were tinkering with was if Jimmy would involve us directly in it, but Iran had most of his attention. Even the hard core survivalists didn't think that one would trigger WWIII, not with Vietnam over less than ten years, and memory's still fresh. I do recall our team kicked the Soviets ass in ice hockey that year.
