Home Projects.......

Post by ffuries »

Well CINC Household made it 5 months before she started her customizing of the house back up. Yesterday she started the laundry room update. Cabinets up already, she's putting shelves up between them. The shelves have been cut and stained, she did the cross on the cabinet doors as they were plain. She's started the flooring and has laid it out so she can adjust as needed for the colors and final trimming before she locks them in.

I'm going to drain the water heater and use a floor jack to raise it and stand up an inch or so. That way she can lay the flooring under the stand, and I don't have to disconnect it all again. I hate working with the gas lines and if I can get away with not messing with them all the better.

I get to talk to the city next week about permits for enclosing the garage. This way I can decide if I want to permit it or not permit it. Since there is no electrical work needing to be done, it'll be framing and a little cement work, so if I permit it, the inspections will be quick and easy. Need to sit down with a concrete guy and pick their brain.

I'll get to do the outside work of pouring a cement/concrete lip across the garage opening and framing up the opening and installing the windows. After that is done, she'll do the insulation, drywall work, painting and her trim work, then she'll lay the flooring.

Then I get to make my work bench, ammo storage cabinets, etc. This will become the new office, militaria, gun maintenance/storage room. Nice big canvas to work with. It'll be cheaper to do this project then the screen room will be. Just for the screen room, we were quoted $22,000.00, that doesn't include getting the old cracked 8x15 patio taken up, and new 10x30 patio poured.

Good work so far, Bob the bobcat passed this way a couple weeks back and triggered the cameras. He was being shadowed by one of the small cats who he either didn't notice, or ignored. Good for Sylvester the cat, as stalking a bobcat would be a housecat version of assisted suicide.

Well she finished up the flooring in the laundry room. She's currently putting down the quarter round, then she'll install the shelves real quick. After that we can move the washer and dryer back in.

She ran into two snafus, the first one created the second issue. The stand to the water heater is stuck to the floor, apparently when the company came in and finished leveling the floor for her, it cemented the stand to the floor. Trust me the damn thing isn't budging anytime soon. So she had to cut the flooring to go around the L shaped legs of the stand, she had no issues there. It was getting the last row to lock in that took over an hour. She was working against a wall, trying to lock them in, one would pop loose as soon as she got the last one locked it. She defeated the beast eventually.

So now it leaves the main part of the garage, that will take a bit as I have to at least close up the outside portion first. Concrete lip, sill plate, framing, window, OSB, wrap, then the Hardy Board. One day all the projects will be done and she'll go batshit crazy not knowing what to do.

Here's the result of CINC Household's hard work. Still have to cut a hole in the door for installing the window. Other than that she's pretty much done with the major part of it.
