Mosin PU Codes

Post by Gunnar_2018 »

Hello! I have seen some nice Izhevsk Mosin Snipers for sale, but one I liked while having an authentic scope serial numbered to the rifle, did not have the Circle C nor one of the documented prefix codes before the rifle serial number. Does it sound like it could still be an authentic sniper? Everything else seems good.

"did not have the Circle C nor one of the documented prefix codes before the rifle serial number" Never heard of that... There's a lot more to consider when trying to determine of the rifle is an authentic sniper. I have no idea what a PU Code is. And what does "having an authentic scope serial numbered to the rifle" mean?

Izhevsk marked sniper grade barrels with a "C in a Circle" stamp, all legit Izhevsk made PU snipers should have it stamped either to the left or the right of the Soviet crest depending on year. In addition, Izhevsk made PU snipers in dedicated lots with serial prefix's separate from the standard infantry models. These prefix's are listed in site member Ratnik's excellent website. OP, pictures are the best way to find out if the PU you are looking at is legit but if it lacks the Circle C stamp and isn't from a known PU sniper prefix it likely isn't legit.
