Technical Woes......
Technical Woes......
Last Sunday CINC Household and our youngest son reattached the front security cameras, ran the wiring in conduit, buried the conduit, etc.
Then came my part, bring the system back on-line. Well that didn't work out like it was supposed to. Apparently between the shut down of the system in Feb and hooking everything back up in Dec the hard disk drive took a dump. Ordered a replacement HDD, with more storage space, read up on how to format it to work, once I installed it. Well took the old one out, put the new one in, hooked it up, powered up, and the system formatted the new HDD automatically, success.
Now I get to put everything back together, hook the camera wiring to the DVR, tuck it all away nice and neat. Then I get to play with hooking the ring doorbell back up.
This coming Sunday, the rear cameras will be installed, wired in and hooked up. Then we'll have 360 degree coverage (With overlap) of the Stronghold again.
Hmm maybe I need to see about getting a field artillery cannon for the front yard......Could plant it next to the flagpole!

Re: Technical Woes......
I have a series of 9 cameras around the outside of my house. I can see every bit around the house. It has sent two people to jail so far over the last 5 years. They record to a SD card inside each one and also to my server's hard drive.
I can look at them from anywhere in the world (LIVE) that has the internet available.
Just put a new one in last month. The newer ones are really clear even at night. Now, I think I might upgrade all the rest to the higher res.

Our old time lapse VCR system, sent 3 people to prison for 25 to life for murder, our current system had the footage of a guy that was breaking into cars. He tried ours but it was locked, but left fingerprints, and the footage was beautiful according to the investigators.Darryl wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 1:18 pm I have a series of 9 cameras around the outside of my house. Since the murder, when new deputies, or investigators come on, they are brought by and introduced to us. They'll stop by every so often to chat, see what we upgraded, and at times check our footage looking for someone.
With the price of these things being so low now, it's a no brainer about having it. Our original reason was to catch the kids sneaking out, sneaking in, sneaking friends in etc. The fact that it caught the murder suspects was incidental, and has made us keep our systems updated and upgraded over the years.
We can view ours on our phones and computers anywhere like you said. It gives us peace and mind when we are not home.

Re: Technical Woes......
I went with the blink system, easy as all hell, pop the batteries in, sync it with the module, and it's off to the races. Sends the video to the cloud and my phone as well as a card if I want. How many cameras is a state secret, but lets just say it's a lot . They can be put just about anyplace, full HD, two way sound, no wires to give them away, camera is the size of a pack of smokes, wide field of vision. Major drawback is I did have to upgrade my flip phone to a fancy new smartphone so I could receive the videos as they were being recorded. So far in a month I have nailed three casual trespassers, one guy who was letting his dog shit by my gate, two assholes dumping things on the neighbors property, and last weekend I caught two fornicators who thought they were safe parked in the dark right outside my gate, right under two cameras. In addition I set up several ring cameras in different locations a bit farther out and caught dozens of deer, two fox's, a skunk, bunch of racoons, bobcat, opossum, cats that are not mine, and a stray dog the neighbors tenant swore on a stack of bibles never got loose, until I produced the video. The old system is still up and running, but 2005 tech is primitive compared to the new. Fornicator boy seemed in a big hurry to leave, seems the sight of a man holding a double barrel shotgun coming out of the darkness shrank his pecker down to the size of a small stack of buttons
Didn't catch sight of the other party in the back seat, could have been another dude, never know these days. Never had a gate camera before because of the issue of running wires out there, I am having a lot of fun with that particular camera. Knowing nothing about modern phones I asked my friend who is up on that sort of shit to take care of finding one that would do the job I needed, he said he would get me the one he was going to get, fine. I failed to understand that he uses the Apple i14 super duper wizzbang special whatever with more memory than my PC and a pricetag to match.

I still shoot my little cannons, but you got me thinking, time to make artillery. I'm gonna test an oxygen tank when I find one. Is that FG powder for the cannon ? Is there a shotgun primer trigger store somewhere reckon?ffuries wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 1:03 pm Last Sunday CINC Household and our youngest son reattached the front security cameras, ran the wiring in conduit, buried the conduit, etc.

Re: Technical Woes......
Big Dogs work even better.
I had a guy try to put a big slip-joint pliers on my front door knob and try to twist it off. You could see it on the video. Our Beagle (not really a "big" dog but...) barked two times (and you know how loud beagles can be), he took off running. So, the video is fine to catch them afterwards but, The dog kept them out!

Re: Technical Woes......
We got noise makers also, and boy do they make a racket, howling or is it singing.......Hell even Bob the black bobbed tail cat is starting to act like the dogs! Oh, and that's a king size bed they are cramped out on. They stare at the security camera's monitor, and will go to the door and howl if they see someone on monitor at the door. First two pics show them staring at the monitor, they can see that CINC Household has pulled up and is still in the driveway (Mess on the counter, due to moving out for repairs).Darryl wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 9:25 pm Big Dogs work even better.

Calm cat, if my cat caught sight of either one of them there would be a cat sized hole in the roof for me to patch up, and NASA would be getting reports of a new bit of cat shaped space junk orbiting the planet.

Re: Technical Woes......
I have to say, two "big" dogs watching the security cameras when you are gone has got to be the ultimate...unless you add a security alarm to the house.
Have you though of teaching the dogs to "shoot".

My dog does fine with pistols and revolvers, but she struggles with a rifle. ;)
Hey Mike, it looks like your dogs have appropriate weather on the way for Christmas.

Re: Technical Woes......
My cat prefers to work with explosives, said why just take out one problem with bang stick when you can take out the problem, their friends and family, and the entire block they live on. Much more fun.

Re: Technical Woes......
Got an alarm system also.......Weird how they watch it, and if you ask then who is here, they'll go to the dining room and look at the monitor. Dogs are too damn smart.
Won't teach them to shoot, I'm liable to get shot and robbed of my steak or whatever the meal is.

Re: Technical Woes......
I'd love to see how they wouid react to snow. Our female she lays on a black pad in the sun in the backyard and naps. During warm days in the winter she chases the sun looking for spots to nap. She's a weird one. Our male he chases the shade, hates the sun, and loves cold days. He'll lay out in the yard on the coldest days and is happy.
Hell the female, will worm her way under the covers and go to sleep. See picture of how she ends up.

Look at it this way....The dogs are his bodyguards, who is going to mess with him....? Another angle of them on the same day. The cat ain't dumb that's for sure!Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Sat Dec 17, 2022 12:50 am Calm cat, if my cat caught sight of either one of them there would be a cat sized hole in the roof for me to patch up, and NASA would be getting reports of a new bit of cat shaped space junk orbiting the planet.

Two dog and one cat night!
I guess that is just a little under a 3 dog night.

Re: Technical Woes......
A Three Dog Night would be a nightmare......LOL! Funny I was listening to a mix CD earlier, that had TDN, CCR, Fleetwood Mac, etc on it. Made it about 18 years ago with songs that my dad played when I was kid.
It's a nightmare finding real-estate with 2 dogs and a cat. When big boy finds his spot, you can kiss off any chance of getting him to move, unless you bribe him with bacon. I'm talking real bacon not that crap made for dogs, our dogs are picky as hell.
The cat and our female will lay up there for a bit and get down and find somewhere else to lay. He's stays there until CINC Household gets up, then he hangs out with her, wherever she is. Then the female jumps up in the bed and stays there until my lazy ass gets up.
