Colt letter, yes or no?

Post by SA1911a1 »

I have a Colt Official Police that did duty with the Brits after the Dunkirk Miracle (disaster). I have a fair idea when it was made and what batch of revolvers it came into England with. It was a commercial finish revolver in .38-200 (.38 S&W) and a pretty nice copy with all of the appropriate British markings. The piece saw little to no service and what little damage it has to the finish was probably done over here. This old gun will be going on the block pretty soon and I believe that the current market value would be around $800.00 or maybe as much as a grand to the right buyer. Will the $100.00 spent on the Colt letter pay for itself with the sell or would it be thrown away?

For that, it's not worth the $100. The 38-200 makes it a tough sale and Colt can't tell you if it belonged to Montgomery.
Real gun control is the ability to hit the target.

Selling at a G or less as it is I wouldn't bother with the letter, let the next owner worry about it. This is not a SAA that might have belonged to Billy the Kid or a pocket 1903 sold to John Dillinger .
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

What could Colt say that isn't told by the markings on the gun. Sounds like a waste of $100 to me. I've got a similar S&W pre victory with all the English markings, It's a '38 spec. You think they are in the $800 range ?

You could give me the hundred bucks and I can invent a really cool backstory for that gun involving Hitler, Stalin, Time travel, The Queen, The Brits in Korea, and Vietnam, the Nixon white house, Woodstock, Martians, the Castellano hit, lions tigers and bears, and the Putin assassination ( time travel)

Well I dunno about Steves, but mine was at D-Day (Sword), and the capture of Berlin. :shifty:
