Windy Weather Wednesday
Windy Weather Wednesday
Current forecast is for, what will be, hurricane Ian, is to hit around the Tampa area and take a NE diagonal towards Jacksonville. Right now, Mike and I are just West of the "cone of probability." No offense to our neighboring countries, but we have had our portion for a while.

Tell me, Steve, I never want to see another storm like we had when Michael happened. They said it was a once in a lifetime storm....Well I'm still kicking so no storm.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:05 am Current forecast is for, what will be, hurricane Ian, is to hit around the Tampa area and take a NE diagonal towards Jacksonville. I hate seeing these storms hit other jurisdictions, but the Panhandle just can't survive another catastrophic storm. We are finally deep into the recovery process and starting to rebound.
For those in the path of the storm, I wish you safe passage. Steve if this shifts towards yall and yall need a clean bed to lay your tired ass in, a hot shower, hot food, laundry done, etc our front door will always open.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
That is very kind, neighbor and I appreciate the offer, but I made it through Michael here, I will stay. At least I don't have trees to fall on the house now! I am in better shape since Michael too, I now have two good generators, so I can keep the well and a fan going. I cook with propane so that is not a problem either. After Michael I also turned an interior walk-in closet to a "hard room" Double studded, heavily braced, and wrapped in screwed and glued plywood as an alamo position. It will stand up to anything other than a tornado.ffuries wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 10:58 amTell me, Steve, I never want to see another storm like we had when Michael happened. Tomorrow I am going to fill up some gas cans, just in case. When I run out of gas, I can convert one of the generators to propane and I have a big old tank full of that gas.
So far it is still looking like a Tampa to Jacksonville storm.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
Yeah we have two generators also and about a dozen 5 gallon gas cans. Next year we'll have the whole house generator installed and plumbed for natural gas. Not doing this living by candle and flashlights for two weeks plus again.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 3:10 pmThat is very kind, neighbor and I appreciate the offer, but I made it through Michael here, I will stay. Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
please tell me you have the gas cans stored outside of the main house........
Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
They are stored in the shed. Filled up before a storm, and if not used, they'll end up poured into a vehicle tank.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
Get the Wavian fuel cans, expensive, but the best fuel cans we ever had, and as close to indestructible as a can gets. The German flip top Jerrys are good too, but avoid the cheaper Chinese knockoffs, they are crap. Good luck with the storm.

I see the press is whipping up a frenzy about the killer storm that grows by the minute and will surly wash away all of Florida, and then blast a path of destruction to my door by early next week.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
How's it on your end Steve? We've had wind gusts all day, super dry and low humidity at 35%. So dry, that a burn ban is in effect.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 9:05 am Current forecast is for, what will be, hurricane Ian, is to hit around the Tampa area and take a NE diagonal towards Jacksonville. I feel for the ones getting hit right now, Michael was damn near Armageddon, so I'm thankful for being on the sidelines for this one.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
It was fine yesterday, 20 MPH winds from straight out of the North. I spent about 3 hours on the lawn mower while our neighbors to the South were getting the hell whipped out of them. I felt somewhat guilty when I woke up this morning to a perfect Fall day, low temps, low humidity, light breeze and not a cloud in the sky. Why I feel guilty is that I was glad that it was not my turn again...

I know the feeling, I'm thankful we were spared, but I know a pass for us is a hit for someone else. I shudder to think how bad it would have been if it hadn't hooked right and stayed in the gulf longer and hit the Panhandle.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 29, 2022 11:00 am It was fine yesterday, 20 MPH winds from straight out of the North. We've got friends down in the areas hit and waiting to hear on their situation. Plus we have family and friends where it's headed to now.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
We live close to the coast, currently under a Tropical Storm Warning / Hurricane Watch. Expecting 4-6 inches of rain and 40-50 MPH wind, no where near as bad as Florida but hoping for no damage.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
Here in New York we rarely deal with this shit, Hurricane Sandy in 2012 was the last bad one. I am a long way from the coast so things like storm surge mean little to me. Sounds like everyone I know down there made it without damage, no power, but you can't have everything.

Re: Windy Weather Wednesday
We are in the middle of two days of rain, quite the change after a dry summer. Something to do with the storm down south messing with the weather patterns. Right now it's a cold rain, looks like it's going to stay that way.

We had a wet Summer with some rain almost every day. That changed with September and I can't remember our last rain. It is as dry as a popcorn fart here now.

If you are talking about Tropical Storm Julia, it is projected to go nearly due west, containing its problems to Central America.
