Rock Island Arsenal M1903 Rifle with High Serial Number?

Post by Billy Bones »

Hi guys I have a chance to buy the Rock Island M1903 as pictured but I am wondering about its authenticity based on it having serial number 401974. Is this possible? From the quick reading I did, RIA's serial numbers ended in the high 200,000s.

If I'm not mistaken it would have been built in 1918? I'll look it up. Any date on the barrel?
