Mossberg 42M-B

Post by fchaus »

So I may be able to get a Mossberg 42M. I'm looking on GB and the prices range from $500 to around $150. Is there a $500 42M and is so what would constitute the asking price. Obviously I'm not trying to spend that but want to try and educate myself as to the differences and what to look for that may make one 42M better than the other (other the conditions issues etc.).

I have found this to be a very good forum, with helpful folks. https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/f ... y.php?f=51
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

My Dad bought me a Mossie 42m(b) when I was 12 after pestering the heck out of him for several years. Mowed a lot of lawns to pay him back. Still have it, altho the scope is long gone, it was ruined in a Michigan blizzard a buddy and I got caught out in, it leaked and took on water. Have since re-scoped it but alas it isnt original.. Someone engraved the stock so it isnt ever going to be original. Other .22's have come and gone, but I'll never sell that one...

Thanks for the link to the site. Lots of good info there. Good reading. So i purchased the gun and when I got there was suprised to see that it was fitted with a small scope. The front site was missing but was able to get the gun for more toward the low end of the price gap mentioned in my original post. It will be a week before I'm able to get the transfer done and then a couple weeks to pick it up (Kalifornia) but I'll try to post some pics of the score when I get it in my grubby little hands.
