My Del-Ton M4 clone (wannabe) likes Wolf, Tulammo, American eagle (military), and American Eagle .223 Rem. Which is interesting since the 20 inch A2 I got from them wouldnt cycle any of the steel case stuff.

The Tulammo does run dirty as does Wolf and BrownBear but I think the money that you save buying this stuff warrants the little bit of extra time cleaning the gun. Comparing the Russian stuff to the American stuff at 100 yards... they both performed almost identically out of a 16 inch barrel, and since I don't plan on shooting past that range TOO often the Russian stuff will be more than adequate for my needs.

I will say that when the US ammo hits it breaks up and tears itself up, but that Russian stuff stays together and I've found many of them when diggin around the remains of old tree stumps. Have yet to find and Intact American 5.56/.223 bullet.

5.56 is meant to fragment.

Yes I know that, I was just stating that the FMJ from Wolf/Tulammo does not fragment. Flattens out but retains its shape.

their x39 holds together very well also, its suprising how solid they produce their projectiles.

My old SAR-1 needed a lot of break-in as well. I broke into the box and it has never let me down since. :D

Thats the whole problem with the AR platform and why I do not trust it as a battle rifle. To darn touchy. I have put some kalashnikovs thru hell and back and they keep going bang bang bang.................. get a piston upgrade and mae it a ultimate AR ;)

The AK47, for when you absolutely, positively, have to kill every mother****** in the room ! I tested the Maddi when I first got it and was unimpressed by it's appearance, passed every one, and has never let me down in more than 20 years now.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Don't know if this would help or not. I don't use any .223 or 5.56 myself. But they have a lot of the 5.56 of the types you mention.

I think Weldonhunter has mentioned them here and his website.

In my low speed/high drag experience, cleaning an AR or M16A2 takes about an hour an a half.

Cleaning an AK to similar standards takes a third to a half of that time.

You can tell which one was designed by an NCO and which by an aerospace engineer.

i for one would much rather clean mr.siminov when he doesn't need it then have to clean an ar because it does need it, and from what i've seen the accuracy issue doesn't really matter in real combat as people tend to not aim and more or less shoot over there shoulder.

Usually takes me about 30 minutes to clean my upper. The bore, bolt group, etc. It really isn't that bad, the only part that is harder to clean is around the breach since you cant get your fingers in there. But from what I've seen after running a couple hundred without cleaning is not much crap really accumulates there anyway.

The AK is a great rifle, but the Ar 15 is also a great rifle... just different philosophies went into the design and it shows. Today with all the alterations and work thats been put into them, they are both accurate and reliable rifles. Either would really be a good choice in this day and age.
