Knife revival

Post by SA1911a1 »

Someone gave me this old Case two blade hunter some years ago. You can see why it came for free. Not only was the main blade buggered beyond all hope, the scales on the other side were in three pieces and it looked like it had been used for a hammer one time to many. The second blade had not been abused like the main blade. When I got it, I contacted Case to see if the blade was still available, but it had been out of production and out of stock for years. Going through my knife drawer this morning I dragged it out and decided to bring it back to life. It was a fun way to spend half the day. This was my first experience of disassembling and reassembling a pocket knife and I learned a lot. The next one will be easier, quicker and more precise.

It now has only one blade, but it is all right, up tight and out of sight, taking a stroll on I'll shave you street!

Nice job   :vcool:
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I have several dozen assorted knives of all sizes in cigar boxes...they were given, collected, found, taken, and gathered by any legal means since the early 40's.......I look at them from time to time but have never put any effort into the study or, if needed, restoration of them....

would be a good project over the next several winter months........

Nice recovery there Steve, I still need to find my pocket knives and see what I have that you might want.

You're just wanting to get out and cut somebody up at night. The Isolation from the pandemic has made you a schizophrenic killer by nite, retired plumber by day. Do you remember the victims faces ?

I have the single bladed model in original configuration. I got this from a great uncle. I think it is a 1969 flavor.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

When I was working with my tools in the early 70s, I carried one of those until I wore it out. The old guys used to laugh at me for carrying such a large pocket knife, in my pocket, but it was a great tool. I probably cut ten miles of oakum with it.
