CCi did aluminum case pistol rounds, US .45acp was in steel case during the war, WW2, some of it anyway. Don't recall US makers using steel for rifle rounds, that's more of a commie thing.

The only steel I know of is that Winchester Steel case 9mm. Outside that though no don't think the US has.

China Joe and Kam-Ma-La da Ho can't get the Gun Ban they (?) want so they are trying turning ammunition into unabotatium. By limiting imports they don't effect American jobs
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

The ban applies to a heck of a lot more ammo than just surplus. A really big percentage of new ammo of many different calibers in the US is Russian made and now banned.

I have some Hornady steel case in 7.62x39, but it was about twice as expensive as Russian ammo at time of purchase. Now with the Biden Russian ammo band, all bets are off. You will see all those Russian calibers skyrocket in price compared to better days. The calibers that come to mind for future expense and scarcity will be 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 7.62x54r and 9x18 Makarov.

I purchased 180 rounds of Russian manufactured 7.62X39 the other night once I heard about the ammo ban.

Wolf and Tula won't be coming in if this is true.

Yeah but keep in mind this thread was posted in March. This latest round of sanctions wasn't even on the on horizon yet. Since this was announced the other day traffic to gun-deals has been way way up and all of the new steel case Russian stuff is going away and what's left is being inflated. It started with 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 the first day but has now spread to other calibers. Places even have crates of Yugo M67 surplus 1120rd and 1260rd crates listed for $699.99. We used to pay about $200 shipped for those.

It will spread to 9mm also. I fortunate enough to order a case. 7.62X39 was pretty much sold out everywhere I looked the day the announcement of the ban went out.

It already has to a point. It's working it's way through all the Russian stuff. 9mm is still around but the price is up and it's getting scarcer. I run gun-deals so I spend hours at a time looking for this stuff, especially when the government makes these FUBAR moves and creates runs on ammo. The day it happened the 7.62x39 category on our site went from like 150+ listings to about 25, there's 13 now. 5.45x39 went from 50 something deals to 1. I hate this shit. I wish we could jump in a time machine and go back to when things were semi-normal.

Today I saw from an ammo company I regularly purchase from has a box of 20 rounds of Wolf 7.62X39 going for $16, that's a $10 difference from last week.

I believe that ALL Russian ammo is going to be banned, not just surplus, that would include the Tula, Red Star, and any other Russian brands. That will hurt, because Tula, in many different calibers is what I plink with. It will be a big gift to American ammo makers.

Yeah it's good plinking ammo. I recently picked up a 500 round case of Wolf 9mm.

I told everyone who asked about ammo to get geared up to reload. get the cheapest, and most simple Lee kits, and stockpile components for what's most important. One guy bought 25,000 rounds of .22 long when I suggested .22 is good to have. That impressed me, most everyone else made excuses, ignored the advice and are now asking me if I know were to get 9mm, or whatever for less than a buck a pop. The Soviet shit is good for fun plinking, but for serious work, like the kind my life might depend on, I want top shelf US ammo. That, or ammo I see to myself. Fucks sake, Lee handloader was how much a few years back? Under thirty bucks, the load book about the same with instructions so simple an idiot could follow them. For about a hundred twenty you get the cheap hand press, dies set, components, book, and off you go, before the shit hit the fan that is. Now anyone who didn't gear up, or massively stockpile ammo is just plain fucked.

Personally I like the Serbian made Prvi Partisan ammo over any of the Russian offerings.
One wonders if these Russian companies magically dissolve, factory moves tooling to a different Country & starts making ammo on their old equipment under a new name. Very doubtful & wishful thinking of course... But I'm sure a good majority of their business comes from the US & they gotta be at least considering it.

So is Tula ammo. But from what I am hearing all ammo imports from Russia have not been stopped. Read it and weep https://www.nraila.org/articles/2021082 ... ammunition. Of course this is bull shit and since when can the State Department initiate "sanctions"? Bull shit yes, but it's happening. First the prices will go sky high for existing inventories and there will be none available. Eisel sold a can of silver tip for $245 yesterday. That's just the beginning.
