Blades
Those knives I made last yr. got me interested in try to forge some, and my grandson watches "forged in fire", every episode. He wanted a forge so, I made a small one. The old sandstone wheel is over 100 yrs old. You wet it and man it cuts this high carbon steel like nothing else. I've got knife pictures somewhere I'll find later.
A friend of mine had all these antlers hanging in a wire basket, on the side of a shed. Some of them are 75 yrs old. Still solid.

Cool, I like them.....If I tried something like that I'd either burn the neighborhood down or myself or both!
You got some talent there.

From the description of some of your neighbors, would you really mind burning down at least some of the neighborhood?ffuries wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:44 am Cool, I like them.....If I tried something like that I'd either burn the neighborhood down or myself or both!

Cool knives, Try some railroad spikes, local guy makes knives out of them. I like that wheel.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Blades
Good idea JYDog. I'm gonna try welding two spikes parallel and squashing them into a straight peen/wedge hammer.

My only concern is I'd set myself on fire at the same time........Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 2:38 pmFrom the description of some of your neighbors, would you really mind burning down at least some of the neighborhood?ffuries wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:44 am Cool, I like them.....If I tried something like that I'd either burn the neighborhood down or myself or both!

Re: Blades
I've been busy, got 6 more laying in a store in town, sold two . I started on a railroad spike Jim, they're pretty tough
. I've switched to propane, no more black lung. All I need now is a giant copper kettle and some sprouted corn.
I don't think my coal is very good. it must loose some punch laying in the weather 50 + years. The propane is lots faster heating. Those are throwing spikes there with the railroad spike. I made the big Gurka knife out of an old shovel. The two weird looking blades with the holes, were an old pair of metal shears. Ugly but hefty and they shave. Someday, when They come to take our knives away, I will have many to throw.
