AR Build Parts Arriving.....

Post by ffuries »

Well the parts for my AR15 build (M16 604), are starting to trickle in, doing the happy dance right now. The lower came in today, along with the triangular handguards, charging handle, and the A1 style rear sight, and 3 prong flash hider.

So 2 orders here, waiting on 4 orders to arrive, plus meeting up with a buddy for the barrel. That will give ALL the parts for the build......

I had a Colt SP1 with that handguard I took in trade years ago, then sold it for a shitload of money that I used to buy M1's, and other cool shit.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

And now we have to buy Retro/Repro handguards as original ones are stupid high.

I remember seeing many original ones repaired with tape, I guess that's why they changed the design later on.

Yeap, the ones I shot in the military had teeth missing, or were mismatched like hell in condition. Plus the danm things would pinch your hands when holding them when shooting. The round style are better all around.

3 orders showed up today, barrel nut, spring and washer, upper receiver, correct small box ejection port cover, gas tube, etc. Need the barrel and the FSB.

Got an A1 pistol grip on order, and watching a few Type D style stocks.

I did/do, but somehow when I was doing my order, I either forgot to add it to my cart or I accidentally deleted it from my cart.

My checklist shows a "Checkmark" next to the it, showing I had found the right one and supposedly put it on order.

Went ahead and installed the A1 style ejection port cover. I'm doing a little reading on how to install the A1 style rear sight.....And when our company leaves on Saturday, I'll attempt the installation.

AR build is on hold for a few days.....Thursday I started getting a sore throat, figured it was just from the cold air from the AC running nonstop with company here.

Well, it wasn't, gawd almighty do I feel like hell. Typical flu like symptoms, running nose, stopped up nose, cough, sore throat. Ate today for the first time since Thursday night, still feeling like crap, but better than I was.

So I'll just continue to chill out and recoup.......Yall be safe and stay healthy!

Got my A1 pistol grip inbound, son told me it shipped. I have a Type D stock inbound, along with the handguard slip ring I forgot to order, plus the short buttstock screw and those darn roll pin punches.

The only thing I need to do is catch up with my buddy get the pencil barrel and FSB and the puzzle will be ready to wrap up.

Was playing around with the rear sight parts earlier, and ended up spending an hour on the floor looking for the detent pin.....My wife found it, stuck it to painters tape and told me to leave it alone, until I install it.

It was comical, there I am crawling around on the floor, first the Husky, and then the Malamute showed up, then the damn cat decided to show up and join in on the floor staring contest. Almost an hour later my wife walks in asks what's going on, 5 minutes later she goes is this it.

In my defense I went into a coughing fit (From the crud) and dropped it.......That's how it was lost!

Nice. Not too long ago I was looking at some options for a carry handle for my AR. I really like the retro look of them.

Type D buttstock is slated to be here tomorrow.....So I guess I'll attempt to change it and the pistol grip out to the A1 soon.

The rest of the small parts and the roll pin punches will be here Saturday, so I can install the A1 rear sight. That will make the entire back end built, and ready for the barrel.

I have the weld spring, snap ring, barrel nut, gas tube, flash hider lock washer, 3 prong flash hider, A1 style handguard slip ring, triangle handguards on hand.

Lacking at this point, barrel (In work), triangle handguard cap (In work), complete FSB (In work).

Need to get a sling and bayonet. She's closer to getting done.

Woo hoo the Type D buttstock arrived today, and the screw will be in tomorrow. Without the barrel I'm at $734.65 right now.....Plus if I decide to sell the A2 buttstock and pistol grip, I'll recoup a few bucks......So not too bad!

When compared with each other you can see the size difference between the M16 and M16A2 buttstocks.

The great AR barrel shortage of 2021 is keeping me from going any further. NO-ONE has 20 inch pencil barrels with FSB installed in 223/556. Hell can't find pencil barrels without FSB either, not that I want to go that route.

The few barrels I can find on the secondary market are pretty damn pricey as they are colt take-offs. Anything Colt is commanding a high price right now, among some retro builders, who are willing to pay just to get original parts. Which at the end of the day is just a parts gun, and not worth the price paid to build.

As I said previously, I'm at $734.65 right now.....So not too bad and I should be able to come in under $1,000.00 when done, and have extra parts left over. IE A2 buttstock, A2 pistol grip, barrel nut, which I could sell to recoup some money.
