I love doing trades.

Post by Longcolt44 »

Honest trades are great, nobody gets taken and both parties get what they want. My shooting buddy has had his eyes on my Enfield revolver and offered me a trade I couldn't say no to. He said he would trade me one of his Belgian Hi-Powers for my whole Enfield rig. To say no would be just flat-out crazy and both parties are happy with the trade. The Hi-Power is in great shape, including an original magazine and two others to boot the pistol dates to 1967. Somebody along the line had night sights installed which are lost on me as if I need to shoot something/somebody in the dark it will be with my 12 ga.

Following are the Belgian Hi Power I got in the trade. I forgot that a Canadian Hi-Power holster came with it but it's going up for sale.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I have been pining for a Belgian made Hi-Power and I have to be happy with an Argentine. Early this year my son found a nice Belgian for a very reasonable price. The only thing I can say is that he just beat me to it. ;)

I just noticed your location is England. I thought it was illegal to own a handgun there.

Hi Longcolt44,
I thought it was illegal to own a handgun there.

Well yes your correct apart from muzzle loaders and long barrelled so called handguns.
You can own working handguns of different types if they fall under certain rules with a special licence issued by the police called section 7.3 These are Historical interest or Rare as in, one of a 1000 made world wide like the Danish Contract FN High Power only approx 1700 were made in 1946. We have one in our collection. The T series was part of 500 issued to British troops in that serial number range so rare possibly less than a hundred survive today. We also have a Colt Police Positive revolver in .38sp dated 1921 that had the barrel cut down at a London Gunsmiths and sent to the SOE in Norway Hero's of Telemark. Bought from a leading Norwegian collector who's father owned the pistol his name is on the frame so very rare. A UK dealer had to sort out the purchase for us. + a few others.
They can be shot at the NRA ranges Bisley on selected days a month not target practice just for testing & pleasure, and are stored in the sites armoury, we cant take them home but we can store ammunition at home with rifles we own. .

Hi Tom,
I will try to expand the way things work for you.

Handguns in general are banned in the mainland of the UK apart from muzzle loaders as stated above. So to the firearms I have in my collection, they cant be kept at home so need to be stored at a secure armoury in my case the NRA at Bisley, there are other locations where these type of firearms can be used & stored. Rifles are not banned apart from full bore semi autos, bolt actions no problem yes & store ammo at home. We can have .22rf semi auto & semi auto shot guns.

Yes Shoot at a target what I meant was target practice for competition sorry did not explain clearly, this is not allowed under the section 7.3 rules.

thank you......how many shooting friends do you usually have on a weekend..? is this a multi-length range for rifle and pistol..?
I would expect you and a buddy might measure your competitive abilities--just no medals or $$$ changes hands...!!

Number of people attending varies month to month.

Separate ranges for pistol 25yds max & for rifle out to from 25 to 1200yds.

Non competitive as my shooting buddy is my wife and she is better than me anyway.

Hello Tomaustin,

Yes the NRA ranges at Bisley are excellent for all distances of shooting. 8-)

gun restrictions: It's Ok we have other restrictions in life at the moment which are life & death so not being able to shoot a certain type of firearm is not really a problem. So we enjoy shooting what we are allowed to.
