Ok I'm getting caught up around here. Cleaned all the guns last night. Here's some more pictures of the shoot. This first one is a picture of the Mosins and the one VZ24 Mauser I have. I'm putting the pictures up in the order I took them.
This is the Bench we're using for now until we can make a better one. It gives a better perspective of the field we're shooing in.
This is a picture from the targets back to the bench.
This my first attempt at getting the Garand in the rings. I had problems with it on the last shoot. It hadn't been shot for maybe 15 years and I had only done a cursory cleaning and lube of the rifle. I also got a bag of parts from Rob that helped out. You can see it's in the rings now at least where the last shoot it was 8"to 10" above the outer most ring. That's with the rear sight elevation all the way down and at 60yds as apposed to 50yds this time. In the bag of parts Rob sent me there was a Gas tube with a different sight which as it turns out was within .001" of the height of mine. That pretty much ruled out that mine had been filed down. One suggestion Rob also made was maybe the stock didn't fit correctly or the trigger wasn't pulling the receiver tight enough to the stock. The trigger gaurd he sent was in better shape than mine so I replaced it as well as putting his sight on which was slightly taller. All of this coupled with a good cleaning and lubing some key points on the rifle made quite a bit of difference. This was the first clip.
This a picture of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd clips that I already posted with a better explaination. On the second clip I zeroed the windage and realised that I had a click or two I could take the elevation down and you can see it's slightly lower. On the third I had centered the front sight better and used a 6 o'clock hold on the target. It still needs work and as I stated before I'm ordering some Orion7 stainless steel op rod return springs on Robs suggestion and will install one. I feel this is really a good idea because it's still a bit weak rechambering rounds and actually stovepiped one real bad and actually smashed the round so bad it's now useless. I'll be doing some work on the wood as well. We'll see how it works after that and go from there.
Here's a picture of Fred_G shooting the M44 he brought with him.
This was done by the concusion of shooting a carbine to close to the homemade rest. The rifle was shorter than he was used to shooting and though it was above the bag the concusion killed the bag. He did not shoot the bag.
I believe this is the first group with the M44 Fred Brought.
More pictures after the race.
