Re: Fun with gun powder
I am sure if we look hard enough, or even not that hard at all, we will find some stupid ass who did this for real. Or at least pictures of the few bits of him the coroner was able to find on a roof clear over in the next county. Remember the guy cleaning dug up cannonballs who ignited one with sparks from a grinding wheel. They buried him in a shoebox.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Fun with gun powder
Not that bad, the guy was a collector who scoured old battlefields around the south for relics with a metal detector. He was also restoring old shells for museums and other collectors. He failed to realize that they knew how to build a waterproof shell in 1862 ( Navel shell, big one) and the powder was still viable. Some defect in the casing allowed sparks from the grinder to reach the main charge, or the fuse. Then it exploded in his face, a lovely memory for his family and neighbors. Word to anyone contemplating cleaning a cannonball, or shell, Evaporust. Put it in a plastic bucket, pour Evaporust ( Wallmart.com has it) over it, let it sit for a few days and the rust is eaten off, and powder charge could also be neutralized, maybe. Much less work, doesn't mark up the iron, no sparks, no disgusting mess splattered all over the driveway.

I would have put one more strap on that bomb before I took off with it. It would an easy wheelie
