Covid-19 and my best friend
I called my best friend Jeff back in January to see how he was doing, as he had lost his twin brother about 6 weeks before to a massive heart attack. He told me buddy, I am so sick and got a Covid test. This was on Friday and he got his results on Saturday- positive for COVID-19 and pneumonia. He was scheduled to go to the hospital on Monday morning to get a something something antibody infusion. I didn’t hear anything till Tuesday. Jeff’s wife had to call a ambulance Monday morning. Blood oxygen was 81% and they moved Jeff to ICU and put him on oxygen. Within a week he had to be intubated (respirator). He was on that thing for almost 3 weeks and had his ups and downs but was improving. They were going to take him off and move to a private room but the last few days he went downhill. My best friend Jeff McGee died last Thursday morning. Leaving behind his wife of 27 years and two grown sons in their 20’s. My heart aches. Don’t let anyone tell you Covid is not real. It is a terrible way to go isolated from everyone in a ICU bed.

I'm very sorry for your loss! It is a serious and dangerous virus. I'll say a prayer for peace for you and his family.

Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
I am sorry Russell, here in NY this is an all to familiar story, we have lost two old friends to Covid, and a third that we did business with. Fuck all cocksucker politicians who politicized this disease, every one of them deserves to get it and die. It's a wonder none of the people closest to me have gotten it yet. We almost lost Scott, the retired Navy guy, and long time friend of mine, but that was to a kidney disease, not Covid. He got his first jab from the VA last week, the second expected in two weeks, no side effects yet.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

So sorry, I've never heard or seen anything like this before. Some people can have not never knowing and the next person is gone in no time.
SIL just came out of it after suffering terrible migraines and no strength to get out of bed for 2 weeks. No other virus symptoms at all.
Everyone take care and be safe.

Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
Our condolences for your loss. This pandemic has me scared as hell. With my heart issues it would be death sentence for me. My little brother (49) has asthma, early onset of Parkinsons, COPD, so it would be a death sentence for him also.
The more stories I read, like yours, I more fearful I become. Before it got bad they were just unknown names on the news. Now it's family, neighbors, and friends, and yes many of yall fall somewhere between family/friends category.
I look forward to this being over, but the longer it lasts, the more I withdraw from the outside world.
Again sorry for yalls loss, you have our heartfelt condolences. Today the world is that much poorer with his loss......

Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
Thank you guys. I know quite a few people that have quarantined because they tested positive but recovered fine. A couple weeks ago I had to stay home from work for 10 days (paid thankfully) because someone at work that was in contact with me tested positive.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My father in law passed last Thursday morning from covid. My condolences to you and your friends family.

Russell, I am sorry you lost your friend. This pandemic is for real and it has killed 500,000 of our own. It's a war against a hellish enemy and we must treat it that way.
Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
Sorry for your loss, Dad. Friends are too hard to come by to lose early. Knocking on wood, but none of the people close to me have been infected, that they know of.
Most of the people in my part of the woods have quit doing anything to protect themselves. I just came back from the Dollar General and none of the employees except for the cashier were masked, it is the same with the local grocery store, I have had to start driving 35 miles to get to a grocery store where the management gets it. The world is just full of Covid deniers, and apparently a half million dead Americans hasn't gotten their attention.
I am about two weeks past my second Covid shot, but it is iffy whether it protects from the new African variant, so no change in the way I am dealing with it. They tell me that Moderna is working on a "booster" to deal with the new strains, but if people keep getting infected on a wholesale scale, giving the virus places to work to mutate, medicine may never catch up with it. I would really like to go have a sit down dinner in a restaurant, but it is not in the cards.

Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
I have not had a sit down dinner in a restaurant in a full year, that means I have not had a decent meal in a full year, 12 motherfucking months eating crap. What's worse is that my favorite place were they knew my name, and how I liked everything, closed forever. To top even that, I was sitting on a $75 gift certificate to that place I had gotten just before the lockdown that is now worth nothing. Sandwiches and ramen soup, or something else out of a can.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 1:57 pm Sorry for your loss, Dad. Friends are too hard to come by to lose early. Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
Been almost a year since I’ve dined in at any restaurant. Haven’t known anyone who has died of COVID yet, but know some who have gotten it and recovered. Everyone in my circles went to ground when COVID started up and are following the best practices put forth by the CDC. Volunteers working at the museum wear masks except when eating and observes social distancing. Everyone at work does the same. We may not be out of the woods until the end of this year at the earliest. Yes, numbers are currently going lower, but that’s no excuse to reduce our restrictions right now.
Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
Around here depending where you go, people are pretty anal on the mask mandate, although the state had relaxed the mask requirements.awalker1829 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:28 pm Been almost a year since I’ve dined in at any restaurant. It's been so long since I've seen the faces of the nurses I deal with during appointments I couldn't tell you how they look......
At the end of each week there are close to 20 masks in the laundry basket. That averages out to 1 mask per person a day and there are 3 of us in the house. Had to ban my daughter, granddaughter and SIL from the house for a few weeks. My SILs mother tested positive for COVID and she just acted like she was on vacation. She was given time off from work, but went wherever she wanted, Our SIL ended being over at his parents house when she was contagious and she didn't say anything to him right away.
The way the news keeps implying, masks will be the norm sometime into 2022! I'm not going to know who people are when we go maskless......m

Re: Covid-19 and my best friend
We are pretty mask conscious here. Restaurants (as far as I am concerned) are only for take out. I go in for my first in person doctor's appointment today.
