Crate of 7.62
I've got a crate of Mosin ammo stamped 7.62 LPS GJ, VT 68/81. No Cyrillic letters on it. Anybody know where it's from ?

Re: Crate of 7.62
I'm thinking Romanian.
Similar to the lower tin in the photo here?

The VT 68/81 should pertain to the powder lot and date. LPS (light ball, mild steel core) pertains to the projectile type and GJ (copper washed steel) to the cartridge type. I THINK...

It's from my private ammo stash, give it back. I would keep that crate intact as a collectable, in a few more years few full crates will remain.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Yea like the second can, just not silver tip. Romanian I guess. I think I've shot some before, copper washed case w/ red seal on the bullet and primer.

Romania was not the only one to make the copper washed stuff, I shot crates worth of Soviet ammo that matches that description years ago. The Chinese also made copper washed cases, but I don't recall them having the red primer seal.

Re: Crate of 7.62
This crate has no cryllic lettering on it , it has LPS by the caliber. It doesn't have anything I can find showing a manufacture country.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 4:45 am Romania was not the only one to make the copper washed stuff, I shot crates worth of Soviet ammo that matches that description years ago. Lately all you can mostly find up here is Chinese surplus. But I keep looking for that silvertip Bulgarian ammo,my SVT-40 likes that the best.
