Jeepers Peepers
I can't remember which forum had a peep sight question, but I shoot 3 " groups at 75 with both of these. Those tiny insert sights are for target shooting or long range sniping, was what the Finns did. The Mk. 5 has the flip up micrometer, it's a carbine, I'm not wasting ammo to see if it hits at 400 yd. with the sight. Either of these are ready for deer.

Hello,
Well, that would have been Jim with his Marlin 336 lever action and the Williams brand target sights(I assume). He was missing the insert, like the rifle on the right in your picture.
I'd bet you could tighten up your groups if you'd put an insert in. Yet, if you're happy with 3" moa at 75yrds. for deer hunting, ok then. Are you shooting from a tree stand?.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Jeepers Peepers
I hope from the stand but it could be a walking out shot too. A 75 yd. shot at most is what I have, sighting on a deer walking in and out of thick brush it would be hard to find in the little aperture. Eye relief and the hole size make a difference but I only use the insert at the bench rest. The hole size in the M1A / M1 Garand rear sight is perfect for me, target or running shot.boltaction wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 6:44 pm Hello,

Yes indeed it was me!! lol Now that I have my inserts, I might get to learn how to use the peep the sites. Provided I ever get the range again!! Getting a reservation is a bit challenging.
I may want to bring it in to 50 yards for a bit too.
Funny thing is even with the inserts the field of view is still pretty wide.

Hello,
Why that would be .069 too .074 for the standard, M1/M14 rear aperture and for the M14 NM/2A (hooded)rear sight that would be either .0520 or .0595 aperture size. I'll have too agree, they all work just fine depending on the lighting.
