Rear sights are welded.. help!

Modern rifles and Sportsters are discussed here.

Sportsters:
We don't advocate making Sportsters from military surplus rifles. We do recognize the ones already made in years past as pieces of history and of importance (such as the Bannerman, Blindee and old custom sportsters). If you bought one, you may show it here. Discussion of how to do this kind of work is not allowed. It is contrary to our over all forum values. So please don't abuse this forum. All final decisions will be made by the Administrators and no one else please. Non permanent alterations may be shown here but keep in mind, if it is in conflict with the "spirit" of these forums, we may remove it at our discretion.

Rear sights are welded.. help!

Post by daytonaian »

I’m sure it’s been asked before but I did my best to search but couldn’t find a specific answer. I got a rail for my hex Mosin and got it almost all the way off but lo and behold, it has no pins to push out. I’ll upload pictures, does anyone know of a solution?

Thank you!

Put it back the way it should be.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Hello,
Buy another rifle too tactical-cool, you kook. Leave the old girl alone.... It is what it is, a nearly 100 year old Mosin Nagant rifle.

There are other non permanent options out there to scope a Mosin which I am assuming you are trying to do. What you are attempting is a permanent change to this rifle which can only have a bad outcome and destroy a historical piece. As above, leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is. There are plenty of fine sub $400 rifles out there that are better suited to your needs. And really, no one here supports what you are attempting. There was a time when the administrators would delete such a post.

Best advice.

You can buy a Savage Axis, new, that will be way more accurate than any Mosin Nagant, for less than you can buy most Mosins these days.

BTW, I don't think I've bragged on this yet on RMNF; I picked up an Axis II in .223 at Walamrt for $79:

Not a bad price, (thanks again, Ron!) but on another forum, I found out Savage had a $50 rebate on them, so final cost was $29, scope included.

It's pretty accurate, too: this is a 25 yd sight-in target:

The red dot is 3/4" for reference.

That's with Silver Bear 62 gr. SP. I expect better from my handloads.

Hello,
Damn, you couldn't buy a good box of 22lr ammo right now for $29..... Yet, your point on the low prices of a new and more accurate option to sporterize, than an old battle rifle, is right on.
