Model 1892 Krag

Post by racerguy00 »

Here's some pics of another oldie I snagged a little while ago. Model 1892 Krag partially updated to 1896 specs. These were all marked 1894 on the receiver. Most all were updated to 1896 specs by replacing the rear sight, moving the cleaning rod to inside the butt, etc. This one had the sight and stock replaced but seems to have retained the earlier handguard and bolt parts.

Bore was really dirty but cleaned up well. Bolt is just as smooth as it should be. I cant wait to shoot it.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I'll get around to a Krag sometime. I've been fortunate that the guns I've found so far have been good and reasonably priced.

These are great rifles and a pleasure to shoot. I bought all the components and a Lee loader and it works perfect for building some great shooting ammo. 308 bullets and any number of rifle powders

I wiped off the accumulated grunge and dirt from the stock today and was surprised to see a filled in cleaning rod channel. So the stock is an updated model 1892 stock.
