Persistence

Post by SA1911a1 »

Just outside my window where my wife and I usually hang out, there are bird feeders. We enjoy watching the critters.

In the past week, we have had a visitor to the feeder, this is the third time. The first time I unwrapped him (or her) and took it to the woods about a hundred yards away. The next morning it was back in the exact same position on the feeder. The second time, I took it about 500 yards away to near the creek. That was yesterday. This morning, the snake is back in the exact same spot, waiting for an unwary bird. I guess this time I am going to have to bag him up and drive him somewhere. This is an "Oak Snake" they are harmless and docile and he doesn't seem to mind our walks too much. I will not kill him because they do too much good in the environment. His bigger relatives keep the mice population down in my barn.

Edit: I just took him off, he got a little aggressive this morning as if to tell me that this shit is getting old. The little shit tried to bite me, which is why I have the gloves on. Their little mouths are sharp and they will cut you, but since they have no fangs, the gloves do the job.

Used to that with rattlesnakes but they were back in a few days. Very territorial. Now just dispatch them.

I do the same with rattlers. If they are in your yard today, they will be back tomorrow. Over the last 25 years, I have thinned them out to where I rarely see them any more. Copperheads are a different story. I am still killing several of them a year. Of course the swamp and stream are full of Cottonmouths, but as long as they stay there I don't harass them. I am real careful about where I put my feet around here.

My grandson left a door open in his bedroom. Next thing there was a rattlesnake in the bedroom. Chased him with a broom out the door. It was a lot of fun because he wasn’t cooperating. Finally got him out and used my 20 gauge to finish him. Out here in the desert the two most bitten are small kids and dogs.

We've got rattlers up on our property. They don't get too close to the house most of the time, so we leave them alone. They help control the mouse population here. They can be a problem out at the pistol club due to people leaving doors to the bathrooms open, so every door has a picture of a rattler on it to remind folks to close the door when they're done in the facilities.

Grease up the pole, snake falls off, calls you everything but Steve, and finds a new chicken shack hangout. Or put it in an aquarium, call him goober, and feed him live mice, free pet snake. We don't have that kind of snake here, damn birds eat the cat food the moment the cat turns away from it, then they shit on my truck. I would build a nice bird house, rent it to the snake, and watch as the birds fly in, but don't fly out.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Good snake, bad snake. This snake won't bite, this snake will kill you before your next step. This snake is good for the climate change, this snake eats bugs. I don't care, any snake I run across is a dead snake. Just so you know, I kill spiders too.
