High School football resumes in Georgia
High School football resumes in Georgia
What could be safer in a pandemic than having two football teams sweating, snotting, and spitting all over each other. Parents in the stands yelling their support. Did the Covid-19 problem get solved when I wasn't looking?

No, the pandemic isn't over, not hardly, no real " cure" in sight anytime soon. Because of stupid shit like this the whole country is going to take it up the ass big time come this fall and winter.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Football games started here last night in West Virginia, parents only allowed to watch the show. If a parent can't attend no one else can use that ticket. My wife returns to teach at her vocation school this coming Tuesday.... Kids will rotate in groups by last names with each group attending 1 day a week for the first week then 2 days a week and second and so on up until attending 4 days a week. It such a mess teachers will be given Fridays to get things lined out with online work, home schooled and the kids attending school.
They say it might work until about the 3rd week before all hell brakes loose.
My son just started this year at WVU and has been there 2 weeks. Arriving he was to have 1 online class and 7 in person classes. Next day after checking in they switched to 5 online classes out of 8...

Re: High School football resumes in Georgia
All college sports here in Arizona are suspended and I don’t believe the high schools are playing either. This winter will be tough on us with the usual flu on top of COVID. The drugstores and doctors have been pushing the flu shots and my parents and I have all gotten the current one for this year. Doesn’t cost anything out of pocket and I’ve not gotten a bad case of the flu in the 10+ years I’ve gotten the shot.
This weekend will be a big test to see where new cases increase. I am hopeful that Arizona will not see any dramatic increases as it appears that many people here have finally gotten with adhering to the state and federal COVID guidance. Our infection rates have fallen substantially since the July peak.

Here's the good news, if you are taking the proper precautions against Covid 19 you will likely avoid the regular flu also.

Well, so much for that... They've now closed all in person classes until Sept. 25th. A lot of kids came home for the holiday weekend with the virus after school being open two weeks. Also many kids who live to far to go home for the weekend stayed behind and partied in large groups. After being warned before hand they are now expelled and will loose their tuition.
My son returned yesterday because most everything needed to work online was left behind at school for the weekend. I asked him today how thing were going and he said he couldn't tell anyone was missing.

Jackson County, Florida is a very hot spot for the virus. For it's size and extraordinary number of people have die. I had some business there last week, so while I was out, I popped into one of the pawn/gun shops I visit on a regular basis. There were four employees and about five customers, and I was the only one in the place with a mask. They looked at me like I was from Mars.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 11:09 am Here's the good news, if you are taking the proper precautions against Covid 19 you will likely avoid the regular flu also.
I went to a second store, and they had clerks who were taking temps as the customers came in, but they were wearing masks below their noses.....
And they wonder why so many people have gotten sick and died.

Really the risk of spread for spectators is quite low. A slight breeze moves so much air it just isn't likely to get enough virus into you from someone else to become infected. Also, if tens of thousands can gather to protest and riot surely some people can gather to watch football.
“I can tell you from our own testing in Minnesota, which has been substantial, we have seen no evidence of any kind of measurable impact of protests on cases,” said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. “There could have been cases, surely, but it was not a major amplifying event.”
In my opinion (obviously worth what you paid for it) outdoor sports at the Middle School and High School level should carry on as normal. Indoor sports require more caution. There is just not a big risk, at least for spectators of outdoor sports.
The students are sitting in air conditioned rooms of recirculating germs with each other anyways. Have spectators wear masks to prevent them from coughing directly in someones face and let's play ball. In my community they are giving each participant 3 tickets. Usually parents and a sibling go. The Grandparents who have been the most isolated for ages and are itching to go see the grandkids play sports are usually excluded. The funny part is that the limited size group going to the football games all sit in the center section of the bleachers with the seatbacks.

All of the gun shops here have been requiring employees and customers to wear masks. Masks and social distancing are what got Arizona's cases to decline. Once folks saw the infection rates increased in the summer, they got serious. Downtown is like a ghost town after 5PM. Local YMCA has reopened some exercise facilities per Arizona Department of Health Services standards with 25% capacity and requirements. I've gone in a couple of times-masks are required to be worn while exercising and equipment is to be wiped down with cleaning agent before and after use. My branch has a maximum capacity of 50 people and the facility is large enough that social distancing is not an issue.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 5:39 amJackson County, Florida is a very hot spot for the virus. Most primary schools and secondary schools are on mandatory distance learning, as most counties have not yet met state requirements to begin in person instruction. High school athletics is resuming here on a district by district basis. Currently, none of the districts in Pima County intend to resume games until the county health department gives them the okay. Football will not resume until the first week in October.

Re: High School football resumes in Georgia
We got serious about it around here after the numbers in New York City exploded. People work there and live here, they spread it north, numbers in the county shot up. The shutdown worked to reduce the numbers here, people stayed home, away from other people, some didn't and they caused most of the infections. I have seen the dumb fucks wearing masks only over the mouth, they probably don't wash their hands after using the shitter either. You don't go into a store here without a mask, and when I deal with the public I am required to wear one. We are now into the 7th month of this pandemic and so far I have avoided infection by taking basic precautions. That lucky streak can end at any time since this mess is far from over.

Same here. I've avoided the virus so far. Stores and restaurants here are the same deal-masks required. Downtown is dead once the office workers go home. Unfortunately, folks here didn't get serious until the economy reopened and our numbers took off. The mess won't be over until sometime after the new year. The good news so far is that we haven't seen any big spikes (yet) related to the resumption of school. What impact Labor Day will have is yet to be seen.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 1:23 am We got serious about it around here after the numbers in New York City exploded.
