Hurricane Micheal update

Post by SA1911a1 »

I just heard from the Forest Service, based on a site visit, and satellite photos on the day before and the day after hurricane Michael, they determined that I lost 65% of my trees, on 30 acres, to the storm. I have cleaned up about five of those acres with a chain saw, a truck and a logging chain... It seems that there is some kind of program now available to help clean up the downed trees. If it works out, it will be the only help I have ever got from Uncle Same and the State of Florida, and I will grab it with both hands.

Last time we had wind like that here, it blew one of my chickens thru a chain link fence. :shifty:

They will put you on the list, no worries, they will get to you, September 2031.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

In theory, I signed the last of the papers today. They have been acting like the money for this program is on fire and they want to get rid of it. I was told that the check would be in the mail next week. I just haven't been told how much, so it is like waiting for a birthday present where you may get a pair of ugly socks or a new bicycle! I am hoping for the new bicycle, but I am not holding my breath.

Sorry to hear about the mess Steve, you'll probably find out later that the 65% of the trees were holding up the other 35%. Seems like they all sway in the wind together... The mountain state here is covered 80% in trees and I've been clearing and building fence around 132 acres. Doesn't sound like much area until you take a walk around it carrying a chain saw.

Deal is settled, I get a few thousand bucks. I will take it if the check doesn't come with some onerous conditions.
