Cataracts
Cataracts
Two weeks ago I had the cataract on my right eye done. Perfect vision. Yesterday my left eye. The corneal flap would not heal and kept collapsing on my new lens. Doctor put in an air bubble to prevent this. Can’t see my hand in front of my face. This getting old is really getting old. 3 different eye drops 3X a day. Can’t drive and no depth perception.

Don't drive, the life you save might be mine. Sounds like a good ol' extra helping of shit stew, hopefully the situation will resolve itself so you can see soon. It's always been a worry of mine that something like this will sideline me and then fate picks that moment to end the world as we know it. That would be bad. Did they figure out what they screwed up with this eye that they didn't do on the last one? Good thing is if it hurts and you are complaining that means you are still alive, and in the game.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Cataracts
I had that surgery last year but no problems. I had no drops but they put some new medicine injected directly in to the eye. Wait until you heal and find out that red and other colors are unlike any colors you have ever seen.

Re: Cataracts
I had cataract surgery 2 years ago or more. Perfect.
This last year, I got a detached retina (much worse). I had to lay in one position and not move (except the bathroom) for a week. They put a nitrogen bubble in to hold the retina in place while it healed.
Now, my vision on both eyes are "clouding over". Sort of like looking through a dirty window on a bright day. You know that haze. Now they are telling me my lens they put in for cataract is "scaring over". Good news is, it's an outpatient item. One eye at a time with a laser. They told me "no big deal and easy". Yeah, if it's not their eyes!
Oh, and they told me I have fuch's. And I'll need a cornea transplant in a few years ...maybe.
What the Hell is left in my eyes?

Re: Cataracts
Unfortunately this is my shooting eye. Problem was the flap they cut to put the new lens into would not go back into place. Putting in 3 different drops 4X a day. Back at the doctor next week. You are right. Shits happens when you need the least. On my last tour in Vietnam I had an engine explode a few minutes after takeoff. It really screwed up my back and neck. Off flight status for 6 months. Fast forward to now I have lost the use of most of my left hand an arm. Can’t write my name or pick up anything that weighs more than 3-4 lbs.Junk Yard Dog wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 5:52 pm Don't drive, the life you save might be mine. Re: Cataracts
Around 2002 I had a bad cases of iritis which required steroid injection to the eye. It looked pretty ghastly but there wasn't much pain. The sack of drug protruded prominently though and I looked like a monster. The problem is, besides the extreme mood change from the drugs, that it destroyed my lens in that eye and formed a cataract. I had the surgery and it worked out well. Never had an issue with sight. That said, that eye has developed another cataract but as of now, it's not bad.
Good luck and I hope your eye heals correctly.

Re: Cataracts
I had a similar issues several months after my surgery. The laser fix takes just a few seconds, and it worked. My dominant eye is starting to cloud a little now after about ten years, so I may need another laser fix. A hundred years ago all of us old farts would have just been blind, so I am not complaining.dolk wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 6:22 pm I had cataract surgery 2 years ago or more. Perfect.

My poor wife has to go once a month for the last few years to get a shot of medicine in her eyes to prevent blindness. If not for the insurance, the injections would cost over $4,000.00 each eye, each shot. Try that living on retirement and social security.

I hear ya Steve, I just signed up for S.S. in July, had one colonoscopy is June, have to have another in December, a Cortisone shot in my shoulder last week, and Sinus surgery next month. I've had to sell 13 guns this year to make the bills. Golden years my ass.

Let me tell you a great Medicare story. My wife had a total hip and knee replacement several years apart. She came home from the hospital with a pic line. She needed IV anti-biotics 3-5X a day for each infection . Because I did it at home Medicare would not pay the $48,000 or the $36,000 for this because I did it at home, Had I put her in a nursing home or let her sit for 14 hours in a wheelchair Medicare would have paid it all. If you’re an Illegal you get this for free!SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:26 amI had a similar issues several months after my surgery. The laser fix takes just a few seconds, and it worked. Re: Cataracts
Thankfully I haven't had any vision issues that required surgery.......YET. I know my eyes aren't what they were, I yearn for the days I had 20/10 or better in each eye. Nowadays I need readers to read a book, or use the computer.
I'm thankful that I have had NO aka $0.00 out of pocket expenses between Tricare For Life and Medicare. I shudder to think what my medical bills would be like without them, just thinking about it gives me chills.
I hope you heal up better than good and get back to doing what you love soon.......

Re: Cataracts
wow, I haven't had my "clouded eyes" done yet with the laser. I was told it would work well. But I have a problem with Claustrophobia. When I did the Cateract surgery (and the detached retnia surgery), I had real problems when they covered my face wityh a piece of blue paper with just my one eye showing. They didn't have me under enough I think. So, I am a little worried about this "laser work" they want to do.SA1911a1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:26 amI had a similar issues several months after my surgery. So, Steve, you say just a few minutes? How hard is it to go through? I need both eyes done.

Re: Cataracts
That is a damn drag. With my wife and I both retired from the state, we were able to purchase insurance that is a continuing of the good insurance we had while we were working. We have to pay $565.00 per month for the coverage that picks up where Medicare leaves off. Our co-pay for my wife's bill that would be $8,000.00 per month is $40.00. It is the difference in being able to see and being blind.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 12:52 pm I hear ya Steve, I just signed up for S.S. in July, had one colonoscopy is June, have to have another in December, a Cortisone shot in my shoulder last week, and Sinus surgery next month. You can keep your cortisone shots. I was having some pretty bad foot pain, so I went to the podiatrist, He gave me a shot in the heel with a needle the size of a ten penny nail. It hurt like hell! The way it worked was that the lingering pain from the shot made me forget about the original pain. I limped for a week from the shot. I will never repeat that procedure.
Instead of the sinus surgery, you might just want to get started tooting a little cocaine, it will probably be cheaper and more effective. Even if it doesn't help the sinus problem, you will just forget about it. ;)

We had a customer who loved his powder, one psychotic son of a bitch. The blow made him crazy, he ended up being shot several times during a disagreement with the deputy's. They had to keep shooting because he just wouldn't shut down, and he had an axe. Don't be that guy.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 2:25 pm Sounds like the voice of experience. Re: Cataracts
Had a deviated septum fixed in April 2018, the worse part was the packing in the nostrils. One got to come out 12 hours after the procedure, the other one 24 hours. After that I had to use a Neti Pot for a few weeks to clear my sinuses.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 12:52 pm I hear ya Steve, I just signed up for S.S. in July, had one colonoscopy is June, have to have another in December, a Cortisone shot in my shoulder last week, and Sinus surgery next month. But I couldn't believe the difference it made in my breathing. Now we find out my Turbinates are narrow. So there is another surgery in my future.
