The mystery of the missing squirrels

Post by SA1911a1 »

For the previous two years, the squirrel population around here have has dropping. I suspected that the nesting Red Tailed Hawks that took up residence behind my house were responsible. I had not seen the hawks this year, but the squirrels have nearly disappeared entirely. I saw the reason this morning. Bald Eagles have moved in and set up household just off my driveway a few hundred yards from the house. One of them spends most of the day sitting in the top of the same tall tree squawking while the mate can be seen soaring nearby most of the time. I haven't looked for the nest, but it has to be nearby.

When I was a kid, we didn't have Eagles around; the chemicals used in growing tobacco apparently decimated the population. I did not see an eagle around here until maybe ten years ago, now they are quite common. The death of agriculture around here has had a positive effect on wild life.

The biggest problem around here now is the redneck neighbors who poach deer year round. Where I used to see them on a regular basis in my yard, they are now rarely to be seen, bucks, does or yearlings. I am waiting to catch the assholes trespassing on my place with a poached deer. The family head has one felony conviction, another may send him to the graybar hotel for a while. I have game cameras out and it will come sooner or later.

Why stand on ceremony? End the shitbag and allow him to fertilize some small plot of land way back in the hills. Consider it your contribution to making the world a better place.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
