Negligent Discharge fatality
Local police department reported a fatality at the Canyon del Oro high school here in Oro Valley, Arizona. A contractor who was working on the roof died after his pistol discharged, causing a fatal wound. Oro Valley Police reported that the 40 year old victim had been carrying the pistol in his pocket when the incident occurred. Emergency responders were unable to save the victim.
Two points to consider: 1)why did this idiot even have the gun on him in the first place? The gun should have remained locked in his work truck since the place he was working is obviously in a school zone. 2) why didn’t the idiot at least carry the pistol in a proper holster? Probably because of point No. 1. This guy played the odds and lost. At least the local police made a point to say that if you’re legally carrying a pistol, this is the reason you should carry it using a proper holster and not your pocket.

...and so the Darwin effect claims another victim.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

You need a pistol while working on the roof? Sad... All gun owners don't necessarily have the G2 to walk in from the rain I guess. Yeah, the only thing I agree with Darwinism...

Re: Negligent Discharge fatality
I'd like to know what model gun it was. One of my guys at work was messing with a .22 revolver at home one night, I think stuck it in his back pocket and shot himself in the ass. It traveled all the way down his leg under the skin. He survived.

Some people mistake a trigger for a handle. Pockets are not good holsters, no matter what gun you carry.steelbuttplate wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 8:23 am I'd like to know what model gun it was. Sounds like the trigger caught on something in his pocket. That’s why smart gun owners make such a big deal of insuring that their holster guards the trigger completely. Of course, had he survived he wouldn’t be needing a gun anyways-the United States Attorney would see to that (they don’t like people carrying guns on school grounds).

They do make pocket holsters that look like wallets, but of course you have to actually buy one and use it.

After I retired I looked at some smaller semi autos and always asked, "Is there a holster available for it?" before i even though about buying,
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

Any idea what type of handgun, model, was in his pocket?

Couldn’t find a description in any of the reports. Only details reported were that the gun and one case were found in the roofers clothing. It was also noted that the company that he worked for has a formal policy that prohibits employees from carrying firearms on job sites.

We had a real tragedy at our gun club. A man in his twenties rented a gun, ears and eyes. He went to his assigned lane and blew his brains out.
Re: Negligent Discharge fatality
Well, first. He wasn't carrying it legally. No State in the Union allows CCW at a school.
Second, regarding legality, he was carrying it stupidly. Pocket carry should include at least a trigger cover.
Third, like awalker1829 said, probably better for him he didn't survive.
Fourth, it violates Rule #2: Never point a firearm at something you don't want to destroy. Food for thought for appendix carriers. Personally, I'd like to keep Mr. Ding Dong, or my femoral arteries, in one piece.
