Any other guitar players here

Post by RazorBurn »

I've played guitar since 2000. Had a decent collection that I thinned out as I lost interest which coincided with my interest in gun collecting going up. At one time I had ten or so guitars but sold them down to two and quit playing for several years. For Father's Day my wife and son bought me the blue quilt top Charvel which has gotten my interest back into guitars. So over the past month I've ended up with three new to me guitars.

As I'm sure my guitars will reflect I'm an old metal head and I enjoy classic rock too.

Anyone else play and collect guitars?

Here's a group shot of my current lineup.

Nice collection! Charvel makes great guitars.. you probably know that since you have three! Is that red one a Carvin? I remember Jason Becker played Carvin in the 80’s. Guitars and guns (make cash register sound)...two expensive hobbies.

It’s amazing how sometimes it takes a new one to reinvigorate your interest in it. I haven’t played for a couple years myself then I needed something to do in March.

All of those are beautiful, because I have lost most my hearing learning to play a guitar is one thing removed from the "bucket list" probably, those are all really, really cool. :vcool:

Four Charvel's and one Sully. Two Model 2's (one heavily customized), a Pro Mod and the red one is a Predator. The firebird clone is the Sully.

Very nice collection! How do you like the Orange amp? I saw a few at a local shop but haven't been back to check one out since all the Covid madness started.

I really like the Orange amps. They are a little expensive here but I like that they are tube amps and have that "English" sort of sound to them. I was able to snatch this one up pretty cheap on eBay. It's a Rocker 15, i.e., 15 watts. And trust me, it has plenty of power. A lot of guys say that they use this amp for gigs. I am not that good and it has more than has enough power for me. I'm able to connect directly to the normal input and can connect in the back which is a circuit that bypasses the pre-amp. This is the best way to connect some pedals. The guitars are nothing special. Four of them are Harley Benton's and two are Epiphones. I've never felt that the top of the line guitars had much more benefit other than the brand named guitars. Some of the Harley Benton's could use some upgrades like new tuners and perhaps better pickups but, really, they are ok.

Orange amps are really nice. Tube amp watts go a long way. 5-15 is perfect. Blackstar amps are also good tube amps. I guess that company was some of the original Marshall guys.

My parents both played the guitar. They've both moved on to other instruments-mountain dulcimer and electric bass. I've been a percussionist since middle school. I played concert band, marching band and jazz band in high school and concert band in college. I was also responsible for helping set up the electric bass amp in marching band. The amp sat on the 50 yard line and had a wireless receiver. The whole outfit was powered by a car battery and the bass player marched with the rest of the band. That was pretty radical tech for the 1990s.

The Les Paul is an Epiphone? My last lead player could have bought a Gibson, but he preferred his Epiphone.

No, that's a Harley Benton SC-Custom. If I were to go to a higher level, I'd probably opt for the Epiphone too.

As Jeff Foxworthy's brother would say, " I use ta could."
About 16 years ago I got my left hand caught in between two large (4' and 1', both liquid filled) cooling rollers on a coating machine. I was wearing a welding glove, which caused the incident, but also mitigated the damage.
Long story short, I cannot play guitar very well anymore, particularly solos. I can still play some barre chords, particularly the two-string versions, but for the most part, my playing days are over. I borrowed a Strat copy from a friend about two years ago when I had a pinched nerve that reduced my dexterity even further for a while, as a form of Physical Therapy. I plonk around on it occasionally.
I do miss the '59 Les Paul Jr. I had when I was a teenager.
This one wasn't mine, but exactly the same:

A friend I used to play with got 4 fingers of his left hand cut half way off back in March. He's determined to learn lefty now, I bet he does. He was an excellent lead player and luthier.

I tried it before the accident, many years before. Elliot Easton and Jimi Hendrix could do it, I couldn't. It wasn't really a chosen career, just a fun hobby, initially taken up in the hopes of getting girls. Ironically, it lost me one. Brought my LP Jr. to a party and started jamming to the albums being played, and my girlfriend went home with another guy we worked with. She ended up marrying him, too. I didn't mind-she was cute, but dumber than a box of rocks.

Well the herd continues to grow. I've added a few more to the stable and figure unless I stumble across a totally insane deal I'm done for now. I bought the Charvel Model 4 on the left to flip but it ended up cleaning up and playing so well I decided it was a "keeper".

Nice collection. I had a Jackson Dinky Reverse, but traded it off. I play poorly, but I enjoy it.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
