Turned the big 60 earlier this week and it seemed to happen so fast... Ran across this rifle a couple weeks ago and decided this is exactly what I want for my birthday. Of course no one else in my family knows anything and it's my little secret.
Springfield serial dated 1944 and to my surprise when I pulled the bolt back the barrel is also dated 44. Taking it down and cleaning it well except the wood that will be next I found all parts to also be Springfield. Now to search for a carbine and my gun list will be pretty much full.

Re: Garand birthday
Happy birthday! I saw the flag and for a moment it looked like it was draped over a casket, then I noticed the truck. M1 is looking good
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Thanks Jim, I love my flags and have them on every piece of property I own and then some. Every time I see a flag I think of my Dad and his service to our country which makes me very proud. I remember showing him my like new CMP M1 several years ago before he passed on and of course he asked me how much it cost. And of course I wouldn't dare tell him... He then told me he could buy all he wanted back in the day at pawn for $35 each. I asked him about where and how much to lube the M1 and he told me only time he lubed his was when they took them in the shower. Told me many stories related to the M1 and how they were trained to fall on the gun when they went to the ground. Tough old rifles took a beating during basic training and in the field... Man do I ever miss him each and every day. I still have his ammo belt and several enbloc clips loaded with blanks he used during funeral detail many years ago.

Your Garand is a beautiful example that is a really nice find. These rifles are still very practical today, lot of down range accurate firepower with a Garand.Jbob wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 6:37 pm Turned the big 60 earlier this week and it seemed to happen so fast... (I'm pretty sure the bullets go in the other way in that one pic
Happy Birthday also!
